just thought i'd come and shamelessly bump my own thread :rotfl:
its not that long until we set off now, so if anyone has any recommendations on the are they would be much appreciated. we particularly enjoy walking, castles, exploring, nice pubs, national trust type places. we're easily pleased
thanks in advance :beer:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
If you like walking, then walk along Brean Down and visit the old fort at the end - I think its national trust up there.
There is also a nice walk along Sand Point which is at the end of Sand Bay in Weston-s-Mare. You can walk along to a place called 'Woodspring Priory' which is the remains of an old chuch / place where monks lived / something along those lines!!
There is a nice walk at Uphill in weston, up to an old church that overlooks the sea and an old watch tower that a fire used to be lit in to warn ships and stuff (I think thats what it was used for). You may be able to walk from Brean to Uphill but its a LONG way!
If you're up for a bit of a drive, then visit Glastonbury and climb the Tor. You could also visit the Abbey while you were there.... lots of rumours relating King Arthur to Glastonbury.
Wells cathedral is nice while you are out in the Glastonbury direction, and Street factory village is good for discount shopping.
I'll stop now before I bore people! HTH.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
How far to Tyntesfield? NT property, you might have to book in advance, I want to go!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Hi Pavlos_Dog, we've just got back from Somerset, having had a lovely time. We went to Brean Leisure Park, £17.99 a wrist band for unlimited rides running from 11am-5pm or 5pm-11pm, well worth the money. (Tesco Deals)
Dunster Castle had been recommended to us, drove past it but no time to visit, looked beautiful though.
Weston-Supermare caters for all ages, spotted a Yate's there, nice food so cash in your Tesco deals.
Ate at a Hungry Horse not sure which one but lovely food. Think that goes for all Hungry Horses, good prices too.
Wookey Hole really isn't worth the money IMHO, but printed vouchers for buy adult ticket get child free from gosummer.com, so £21.80 for 4 and said little boy was 3 for free ( sorry anyone he's 5 ) 4 of the chambers were shut due to flooding and cave cheese maturing for Sainsbury's.
Clark's Village is an outdoor shopping centre near Wookey which they advertise on leaflets at up to 60% off goods. Found the shops still pricey ( Next outlet there, first visit to one bit of a let down ) It was a lovely country feel shopping centre with outdoor cafes e.t.c. Parking difficult get there early!
Would have liked to go to the Cheddar Gorge climb Jacob's Ladder, but the parking was minimal, went up a steep heel where people were banger racing in the car park so gave it a miss. Paying to walk fields is a rip off and I'm sure you have to pay that is the impression I got.
Visited the Tropiquaria £30.00 odd quid, kids not interested in the animals only the wooden play area. My DD was brave enough to have the snake put around her neck.
The food on our Haven site was not up to scratch so we did eat out of camp a lot. I hope you have a lovely time. The weather does not seem as close as it is here in Peterborough much more refreshing bearable. Somerset is picturess and Minehead has a lovely beach too.0 -

pavvy,
I spend every childhood holiday in that area (feels like that).
It's no Cornwaaaaaall but I used to love it.
Burnam on sea, Weston obviously, Uphill and Sand Bay just past for the beaches. Cleavedon used to have a great ice-screan shop but that is 25 years ago - lol.
Go to Cheddar Gorge on the way if you can.
Have a great holiday - and don't worry I won't be stalking you this time.
Bye xGirls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.
I would rather drown with you than watch the surf with someone else0 -
