well our £9.50 sun holiday booking details arrived today, and we're off to brean sands in somerset (burnham on sea way).

other than weston supermare beach, i am completely new to the area, so i was hoping to pick your brains on things to do and places to see.

we'll be going mid september if that makes any difference?

thankies

Brean beach is a bit brisk at the best of times - pack some warm clothes!
Cheddar caves, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury Tor, Street (Clarkes factory outlet and many others) are within easy reach. Secret World wildlife rescue is great for kids - badgers!

Clevedon and Burnham on Sea are nice, and of course if you need an excuse to visit Bristle ...

If you want to spend any time on the beach, checking tide tables is essential!

There's a fun fair at Brean itself, and a swimming pool which is meant to be quite nice.

But how many are you and what kind of things do you find fun? And have you got transport?

  • Definitely Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Wells, Glastonbury Tor.. Great walking locally, around the mendip hills. Also: Secret World Animal Rescue centre at West Huntspill if you have kiddies who are into fluffly creatures.

    And the pubs, of course...

On a boring note: as it's your first visit please, please, please take heed of the warning signs on the beaches when the tide is out. It looks like you can walk right out to the sea, but it's sinking sand and the tide comes in fast! It's quite specific to that bit of coast, but the signs aren't that good, and the rescue boats have to go out a lot...

You are right. If the tide's in it's a heck of a long way, and if it's out you'll be stuck in the mud - literally! As jesster says, it's treacherous!

Books - do you like books? You knew where all the bookshops in Cardiff were! The Bookbarn is worth a visit ... if you filled your boot with books you don't want any more you might even make some money! :rotfl:

If you need some more ideas try www.burnham-on-sea.com it has lots of information on things going on in Burnham and the area.
Let us know when you are in the area, and maybe we can meet up for a drink, as you may have guessed from my user name I'm in Burnham on Sea

I am from Weston-super-Mare so am close to Brean.

If you like walking then a walk to the fort at the end of Brean down is a must. Cheddar is a nice place to visit - the gorge is lovely.
Wells is nice with a huge cathederal.

As mentioned by others, please please be careful if you go to the beaches around here. They are very dangerous if you go out too far. I remember the coastguards getting called out in the early hours of the morning to rescue a welsh man who had thought he could walk home (he was somewhat drunk!). It happens a lot as people ignore the warning signs.

Enjoy yourself.... but wrap up warm... its really windy in Brean.
