Does unlocking a phone invalidate the warranty?

I had my motorola v3 unlocked as I was travelling abroad.

However, I noticed that there is a sound fault on the phone - it wont play polyphonic tunes, midi files etc so I assume its a software problem.

I had the phone unlocked a few days after buying it so I dont know if the fault occured as a result of the unlocking.

Motorola's warranty uses Carphone warehouse's repair centre where I will be taking my phone soon but will they hold me responsible for the fault as I had it unlocked? Can they tell I've had it unlocked?

unlocking will not affect warrenty (as long as not opened and done by testpoint)
for all cpw know, your network provider could have given you the unlocking code

cpw's system will tell them that phone was locked when purchused, and the engineer who repairs your phone can see if a different network has been used in the phone. Its worth ago, but worth knowing they can tell! good luck!
