Balanced nutrition survival stores:
Brown Rice
Puy Lentils (cook them or sprout them for salad)
Tinned Tomatoes (value brand)
Frozen/ Home grown mixed veg
Olive Oil
(for a treat, add dried/home grown herbs, a bottle of chilli sauce and a tin of evaporated milk to make rice pudding)
Not a very exciting diet, but healthy. I survived nine months on this while totally broke, only downside was getting thinner (and endless cravings for a cheese sandwich).0 -
red lentils
tinned tomatoes

I thought of adding veg stock as I like using vecon but could make my own really if I was only allowed 5 storecupboard ingredients.
mixed herbs too but could grow them in the garden!£2 coin savers club = £0 saving to move house :heartpuls0 -
Seems to me that most of these things we have anyway, all the time, and that is why our lists are so similar: flour, tinned tomatoes, rice, pasta, garlic, lentils, oils, vinegar, eggs and so on. The more interesting question would be:
what 5 things do you have apart from these standard basics that add EXTRA flavour to rice/pasta/potato based meals:
tomato paste
anchovies
lemons
pine nuts in freezer
seeds of various sorts to fry and scatter
If I'm not allowed lemons (fresh) then I'll cut them into pieces to keep in freezer with the pine nuts, as I cannot do without them.0 -
HELLO, When I use my dishwasher when it has a full load I only use half a dishwasher tablet. The dishes wash just as well and the box of tablets last twice as long therefore 1/2 the price. Try it and see.0
