    Storecupboard Essentials
    Tinned tomatoes
    Flour
    Olive oil
    Dried herbs & spices/Salt & pepper
Stock cubes (assuming you haven't gone completely OS and made your own stock....)

Am just about to re-stock my fridge so will be interested to see what people put down as 'fridge essentials'. So far I've got eggs, parmesan, capers and milk on the list......could do with a few more ideas!

I have to agree that 5 is really hard to 'bring it down to'. Like a lot of you other OSers, I wouldn't be without tinned tomatoes, or baked beans, or cheese or fruit and veg (fresh or frozen) because with that lot, you can live like kings (on a paupers wage :D)

    Dried or tinned potato
    Dried or tinned onion
    Tin of corned beef
    Tin of baked beans
    Tin of mixed veg

A standby meal for two nights (corned beef hash & beans one night, c/b hash & mixed veg the next). All ingredients are *long-life*, which is the whole point of "store cupboard", innit?

Alternatively, five tins of All Day Breakfast :grinheart .

Or two tins of All Day Breakfast, two tins of Irish Stew and a tin of chicken or vegetable curry! :D

    Don't forget the tin-opener :)
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Hmmmmm now how on earth do I cut it down to just five items  ... so how about five categories :grinheart

Dried staples - beans, lentils, rice, pasta, bulgar wheat etc
Tinned food - tomatoes, beans, meat & fish
    Oils
    Herbs, Spices & Seasonings
Baking stuff - flour, bicarb, sugar etc

Wow that was hard to do considering I could probably stock a small shop with my storecupboard items :o
