Hello all!
Huge problem (for us, possibly not for someone who knows what they are doing..)
December 2007, we bought a norton anti virus package, for 2008- down loaded it, no problems, everything brill.
December 2008, we bought a new norton anti virus, (not on-line, 'cos it was too expensive) and have been trying to download it on and off since we bought it.
In fact, hubby has been trying constantly for the last two days.
First question- i think we may have duplicated the 2008 disc, and we should have bought 2009 instead.
If that's the problem and we can't get it on to the computer because it's the same package, then that's the only question i need an answer to!
If that's not the problem then, here we go.
Norton keep telling us that our subscription for the first year has expired and doesn't seem prepared to admit that we've installed a new package.
How do we persuade norton that we have bought another years protection?
Hope this makes sense...
Thank you!!

Use the NORTON UNINSTALL TOOL to make sure its gone
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Then try again

Thank you!
Will try that and see how we get on...

...or alternatively, ditch Norton altogether and check out the free AV software here

I've got avg on my laptop, but there were a few issues with it on the main computer.
On the main computer, windows keeps trying to sell us anti spyware, and everytime we try to get rid of it, it keeps coming back!
Hubby has switched the main computer off for the night- if he didn't it would be out of the window by now.
Tomorrow is another day...

you peeps are fab...thanks for all the help.
i haven't got a scanner to put up the info...without wanting to be a sheep, is that a problem?
Or will there be another way of putting up what the results are?

MALWAREBYTES and HIJACK create a text log. Just copy and paste into here
:idea:0 -
AliEnRIK, do we uninstall the norton first, and then move on to the other 3 things you suggest?
Also, when you say, do not do anything else apart from scan and post this log, do we then await further instructions, before we try to use the computer?
I feel a bit like i'm on Star Trek...:p0 -
Yes ~ sort Norton out first
haha
When I said dont do anything else you CAN still use the computer. Just dont use HIJACK for anything else:idea:0
