I'm retired, so everything I do is on a budget. A tin of tomatoes is approx. 30p. The tin of tomato puree has, unfortunately, overtaken this and is now approx. 35p. However, it not only adds "tomatoeyness", but also thickens the sauce, so you don't have to reduce it so much and therefore end up with more.

would this still be less considering i need to times by 3?

Depends on how much you usually pay for your pasta sauce. Some of them are as much as £2 a jar! However, even if it costs about the same it will taste far, far better and you can use it for all sorts of other things.

Unfortunately my only option is sainsburys or wait rose. Though I have managed to get a jar of sauce for £2.50.

Going to try making the sauce above for me and OH at another date.

Normally pay under £1 for a stir in sauce.

Very true and we are on a budget here, but just read the list of ingredients.

The sauce I've posted can also be the basis for quite a few other dishes.

Once you've mastered it, add 500g of minced meat and a beef stock cube and you've got Bolognese sauce. This then opens up the possiblities of lasagne and cannelloni.

Then lose the garlic and tomato puree, add a teaspoon of chilli powder and a tin of red kidney beans, and you've got chilli con carne.

Lose the beef and blend it and you can even turn this into a chilli bean soup!
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

ooh interesting, I did once make it from scratch but it was a Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsey recipe and it called for so many ingredients I didnt know where to start.
