Those are all composite rather than component
I think you would be best off using your original suggestion on the composite rather than the component method. I did find one on fleabay, but doesn't specify UK shipping. May be worth emailing him0 -

Will do - thanks
*edit*

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5mm-Jack-to-Component-Video-Cable-1m-Y-Pb-Pr-Y-Pb-Pr_W0QQitemZ320343522324QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL?hash=item320343522324&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

Rik, the issue is the connection map, the device requires the ground on the first ring, the liked one has it on the third ring. Otherwise, the connection is the same shape. The colour of the connection makes no difference!Well it will produce a picture, but its composite video ~ NOT component
(yellow for video, red and white for audio)Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0 -

I agree that if its wired correctly then it will work. But if thats true it seems very odd that they dont advertise that it will also work as a component cable (And in the Q+A at the bottom they do say they have a different type of 'sony' one)

Again the pin map. Quite why they think it might be a good idea to re-invent the wheel as it were, when there is already a perfectly good cable in existence.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

i'm hoping that having ordered the cable today, the seller will feel generous and post it tomorrow morning

i'm only sad that my TV has only a single set of component sockets - now that i've discovered how good the picture can be, i'd love to have both my dvd recorder and the media drive hooked up to it ...0 -
RGB scart is very similar in quality. Make sure that your scart connections are configured to be RGB or component and not composite or S-VHS/S-video.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

well when i got it partially working with the cable i have, and set the output to full 1080p upscaling, it was much better than RGB in my humble opinion.
i'll have to see how it goes when I get the proper lead in a few days though.0 -
quick (stupid) question ..
i know the component cable only transmits the picture so does this mean that while i've got the thing set up on the component cable, i'll never get any sound out of the TV ?
i've got the audio cable plugged in to my surround sound system and that works fine, but i just naturally assumed the TV would also give me sound .. doesn't matter if it doesn't ..0 -

Component ONLY gives picture
The posted diagram shows ANOTHER lead is required for sound:idea:0
