Scotland in May or June : which month to tour ??

Early dates are looking favourite so far0

Many years ago I asked a Scottish friend I worked with which would be the best time to go to the west coast. She told me May or September. Due to work commitments my OH could only take September so off we set on the 18th, towing our little caravan behind us. Well it rained. And it rained. And it rained some more. Our 14-day holiday was curtailed on day 10, by then we thought we'd given it a fair shot (and dug ourselves our of some pretty boggy pitches). The only saving grace of our trip was the colours of the hills and mountains which were stunning, when we could see them through the rain mist.
On our return I said to McHelen, as she was, of course, known...'I thought you said May or September? It was a complete wash-out from the 18th on'. 'Ach' she said, nodding knowingly, 'but ye whent a' the wrong ind o' the moonth'!! :rotfl:
May it is, next time...0 -
May for me too.-I'm West coast and it has always been better than summer on average even 35 years ago when I was at school.
Last summer it was the only nice weather we got!0 -
If it was me I would go for May as well. Went to Skye last year in June and didn't get a full dry day and some days were so bad the rain was bouncing. The exams are in May and that is normally when the weather is best.0

That's right, we used to head to the beach inbetween exams:D0 -
May probably best, if you're heading for the Highlands it's often nice at that time, and the midges are less fierce, apparently (I am completely immune to them - Highland genes I think:j).0

Hi Folks
We have 2 available dates (both avoiding school holidays) to spend 4 weeks touring in our caravan the West & North West of scotland either
from 28th April - 26th May
or
from 8th June - 6th July
What are the pro's & cons of either date (wetter, colder, midges etc etc) & what date would you pick ??

Can't be to do with the genes, I have what looks like an allergic reaction to them nowadays which I never had before
Funny thing is that I've never felt a midge down here in Stirling where we live now 0 -
thanks so much for all your feedback0
