Hi Folks
We have 2 available dates (both avoiding school holidays) to spend 4 weeks touring in our caravan the West & North West of scotland either
from 28th April - 26th May
or
from 8th June - 6th July
What are the pro's & cons of either date (wetter, colder, midges etc etc) & what date would you pick ??

June July would be a little warmer but again you not guaranteed weather here. The end of June sees the start of the school holidays in Scotland.0

Not exactly sure as each region tends to have different holiday weeks. My next door neighbour is a teacher will try to find out for you .Yes Scotland start there holidays earlier than England.0 -
Monday may 4th and 5th the schools are off. Some of the schools stop from 6th July depending on the region you are in.I think you would be ok for those dates in June/July.0

Hi - I live in the West of Scotland and I must say our weather seems to be so much better earlier in the summer. April/May seems to be the best weather for the past few years.
As for the midge - it will be the same no matter when you come. Buy the Skin So Soft dry oil spray from Avon (the green one) dont know what is in it but it keeps them away.
Hope this helps0 -
Midges are a flipping nightmare in the summer. You can pretty much forget sitting outside after half 5 on a lovely summer's night:rolleyes: I should know, I spent the first 18 years if my life on the North West coast but they didn't do half the damage back then as they do to me now when I go back to visit my parents. For that reason, I would probably go with the earlier of your dates. You take your chances with the weather with any time of year.0

Hi, would say that around the middle/end of May is usually a pretty good time of year. Eldest was born at that time and in the last 10 years there has only been one year where she didn't have a sunny birthday. Hope this helps and totally agree with the Avon cream it really works. Have a fab holiday:idea: Had lbm, switched it off too many times. Now am trying to sort my life out :T:T

I would go for the April/May option as well as from past experience we have had some lovely weather in May.
Some schools finish on the 26th June so things might get busier then, the earliest state schools finish is the 25th as far as I can see.

schools just have the monday holidays in may and because we finish at the beginning of july there is no holiday after easter other than two monday holidaysThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o
