call prevention registry - a jump on the privacy bandwagon ?

A relative signed up the CPR a few years ago. I recommended they stopped, and they did.
The number was already on the TPS, the fact CPR even phoned up meant they were cold calling against the rules.
A few days ago they phoned again, despite us having cancelled the service over a year ago and therefore having no relationship with them. They promised 100% of calls would be stopped, despite 48%(or a similar figure) of calls the TPS would stop. I had to ask about 10 times for our number to be removed and no further calls to our number before he said bye and hung up.
When we registered on the TPS, almost all calls stopped, except obviously foreign/scam ones. Being "registered" with CPR did no good, all these foreign and scam ones persisted.0 -
Nice bit of company history.
Company 05415867, ALPINE INVESTMENTS UK LIMITED
Then changed it's name to CALL PREVENTION REGISTRY UK LIMITED
Then changed it's office.
HMRC then petitioned for it to be wound up, but this was dismissed.
This was then shortly followed, in late March 2010, by a voluntary liquidation. There is still a charge listed on Companies House, due to HSBC.
Meanwhile, early March 2010, the current company was formed:
Company 07174936, CPR Global Ltd0 -
I had a call from CPR just last week. I too am registered with the TPS and Emil tried to persuade me their service was in addition to and better than TPS. As part of the selling script he stated that, once registered, any company that cold called would be breaking the law. I was intrigued and asked what bit of legislation covered this. He replied "It's Government legislation". I pointed out to Emil that ALL legislation comes from the government, could he provide me with the name of the act e.g The Don't Phone Grundlefosse Act 2013.
At which point the line went dead.:)0 -
They called me today and asked for £35 and said it was a one of payment for life and I could move house and phone number and I would still be a member but I didn't want to pay up before some type of cheching
I think I might give them a body swerve.0 -
I just received a very poor quality call which sounded like it was made India. Same patter about working with the Government to reduce nuisance calls etc
I explained that I believed the company was fraudulent and the operator directed me to the CPS registry website which I assume is a very poor scam page.
Don't be 'had' by these scammers.0 -
I was given one of their boxes for Christmas, quite excited as I do tend to over-react with the endless stream of cold callers.
I can't prove anything but my impression so far anyway, is that nuisance calls have diminished, and as a previous poster mentioned there is a very comforting black button on top of the box that will add the current caller to the blacklist.
Of course, this doesn't help with international calls, but there is an option (I've not yet tried) of blocking all international/out of area calls. I'm quite tempted to start doing this as I possibly receive one international call per year, and they can contact me in other ways. There are also options to block "Withheld / Private", "VOIP/Unavailable" and "0" type single digit spoof calls - again I've not yet tried these.
Pleased with the box so far, but after reading this thread I won't be taking up their offer of a free one year sub to their service.0 -
Well they have just called me and we quickly skipped to the cost of this service after establishing that although they work with BT they don't work for BT. And wasn't it a pity that BT didn't offer this service if it was possible.
Anyway I was told it would be 50p a week but would have to pay for a year in advance which would equate to £39. I said that the maths didn't stack up but was told that VAT & Post & Packing make it up from the 50p/week (£26) to £39. I told her that some people would not be happy about misrepresenting the total figure at which point the line went dead.
I have since found this post and I think it ironic that this company is using the nuisance call channel to sell its "CPR - Callpreventionregistry". If this service can be provided then BT should/would so I can only conclude that this company is not Legitimate in its service or pricing and probably technology (whatever that is actually doing with your calls, internet signal?!?!?). It is suggested in this post (by an ex employee) that CPR may even sell on your phone number & details if you don't go with their service.
Maybe we can all help the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) "complaints.tpsonline.org.uk/consumer" & the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) to banish these companies???0
