Comsumers have a choice:
1. They can register with the free TPS which, by its own admission in it's marketing data and confirmed by Robert Keach, one of its directors, will only reduce the number of unsolcited sales calls you receive by 54% at best. Or -
2. You actually pay for a service which puts a stop to these calls and if any calls do so happen to slip thorugh the net, then at least you have someone who will act on your behalf to take prompt action against the offedning company that made the call(s)
What most consumers do not realise is the the TPS is operated by the Direct Marketing Association which established the TPS to "help sales organisations target consumers effectively". In othere words, TPS has never claimed nor does it even imply that it is designed to STOP unwanted calls.
Whatsmore, and here's the thing that may surprise you, the TPS sells these data lists to the very sales organisations that are guilty of makiing these calls in the first place. How else could they provide a service to 15.7 million customers free of charge?! The answer is they can't, they need revenue from somewhere and by selling on your personal data (a la T-Mobile) that's how they make their money.
So yes, Cal Prevention Registry will charge the consumer but, at least they have a higher success rate in cutting calls volumes AND they DON'T sell your persoanl data into a third party...surely that must count for something, right?!0 -
Alex do you work for CPR or have an interest in them ?0

Re: Ypaymore:- Simply stating the facts that's all.
All too often people are quick to complain about things without examining the facts. We have a Y-culture in the UK - why should we pay for internet, road tax, TV licence fees..the list goes on. People need to recognise that if you want a 'service' - of any sort -you must expect to pay for it. It is not a given right to get things for free.
In an ideal world we'd have an opt-in culture much like in Germany, whereby consumers can choose to receive sales calls from certain organisations if they wish. But we don't have that, instead we have an opt-out systems which is open to abuse by many sales organisations.0 -
OK Alex.
I guess we'll take that as a 'Yes' then.0 -
Another scam.
Avoid like the plague.''apply within''0 -
CPR Global and CPR Call Blocker have the same address in Swansea.
I made the same mistake last week of registering thinking they were the TPS but they do say that they are not the TPS and provide an additional service. Their site and terms are not very up-front. Whether this is worthwhile I do not know. They did call me after I unregistered 30 minutes after registering and all appears ok. No hard sell but I will wait and see if that is the end of it. I am, of course, now on their register - what that means I do not know.
The Call Blocker Box does appear to to be genuine and you can buy this all over the web. It is basic and simple from what I can see. I am looking at a higher level with trueCall at a higher price.
The box option is far better than the service idea/registry.
I go through this every year due to a few annoying calls - my stress levels go up. A system that filters your calls is first class and does work from my research on the Internet. What you pay is up to you.
Has anybody has any experience of one of these boxes?0 -
I have to disagree with Smartmart. I bought one of these CPR Call Blockers nearly a year ago and it was the best thing I did.
I started off by looking at the Truecall and although it has a lot of functions on it, most of them I decided weren't really of use to me and the cost of it put me off. All I wanted to do was stop sales companies from ringing me and the CPR blocker does this and its that much cheaper!! It already has 200 sales company numbers pre blocked in it so all you have to do is block any additional ones yourself.
Maybe its just me, but I find the block now button the most therapeutic thing ever, what could be better than picking up the phone, realising that its one of these moronic sales calls and hitting that button knowing full well that you have blocked them and they haven't got a clue:)
In my opinion this is the best value blocker out there and maybe you shouldn't judge things before you try them!!0 -
Registed my OAP mother in law with this service then saw it was a chargable service - emailed them that day cancelling it - telephoned them the following day - and was reassured no one would call her .
Three weeks later a sales call
Four weeks later an invoice.
These people are a real scam
They are and have become a nuisance caller themselves0 -
Almost registered myself until I saw the "small" £40 fee in the T&Cs. Since most of the nuisance calls I get are overseas from the sound of it and have no return number (1471) can't see how they are likely to be effective.0
-
In my experience, most of the nuisance calls from overseas are scams eg your computer has a virus, you've won a lottery, you owe money etc etc.
If the call prevention registry really in sufficiently good terms with these scammers that it can persuade them not to call certain numbers, what does this imply about the call prevention registry?0
