Experience of closing Capital One and Llloyds TSB accounts

I'm having problems with both of these guys closing my accounts. Everyone else seems to have done it straight away in the past except these guys. Anyone got any experience of timescales?

Lloyds : paid off my bill in full and cancelled in late December. Checked my credit report, and at the last update (22/1/06), it claimed my balance was £5. Called to tell them about this and they confirmed my account was closed that THEY owed ME £1.99. They said last week they would get the relevant department to update the record, but nothing.

Capital One : closed the account in november, and its still showing a balance of £0 on credit report. I never used the account for payments or debits, but still its not settled. Experian wrote to them a month ago and still nothing.

not sur eabout lloyds but capital one are a very slow organisation. Whever I have asked for a balance transfer online it has taken a long time, normally so long I do it another way and forget as it can take up to a month so no doubt they ar eslow with everything.
    Nice to save.

I am struggling to have my closed ACCUCARD (Lloyds TSB - Create Services LTD) removed from my Experian file. Even after my complaint and their letter in October (...Please be assured that your request has been actioned and you should have no further problems ... ) this card is still not shown in my January file as 'settled' ...:(

When you closed any account be it credit card or bank account, I always ask for a confirmation letter and I know its closed.

Thing is, I got a letter from Capital One back in october when I cancelled, and Lloyds a week after cancelling. So doesnt make sense why Lloyds sent me a statement. I've chased both up and they say they are sending memos to the credit department. This is a pain as I closed both to improve my credit rating and I'm holding out for ages for this to happen so I can apply for a loan.

    Right, update time :

Capital One sent me a letter dated the 15th saying they have informed Equifax and Experian that my account is closed and that they would be updating their records within 48 hours. All good.

Lloyds really are stubborn !!!!!!!s though. I got a letter back from them asking for proof of what was on my Experian credit report and to send it to them. Otherwise they wont do anything about it. So I'm now going to take this up through Experian.

Definitely put me off using Lloyds in future.

I closed Capital One in October and despite numerous letters from them saying the account is closed and credit records updated, it still shows as active. about to write again asking them for the new deal at 0% until 2007 with no fee as their delays have meant low credit limits on new cards - worth a try anyway!

Call them up - thats what I did and I got a letter saying specifically that they were going to let Experian and Equifax know. They havent bothered responding to Experian (via the online query) as though the account was showing as settled, the notice of correction was still right next to it!

I had that letter as well - but the account still has not been updated over two months later! Will try my luck on a new deal (or they can update my details with Equifax etc).

Even worse now, Lloyds have updated it. But it says my balance is £1 instead of settled. Though it does say that the account was settled on January 3rd.

    This is a joke now.

I have just checked my Experian report and Lloyds is showing up as a £0 balance there and a £1 balance on Experian. Both were updated on the same date.

My Capital One card two weeks ago was marked as settled on Experian. Now its come back as a balance of £0 with the settled date missing. This despite them writing two letters.

I'm getting extremely annoyed with both of them. I have called several times and nothing seems to have happened. Is there anything else I can do, apart from querying with Experian/Equifax? Its driving me mad.
