I have decided to update my signature to include our HP payments, and one debt I had missed  . That way I can see exactly where we are and where we are going.
OH seems to have embraced the idea of DFW. We talked about what we owed (without an argument for once:rolleyes: ) and I explained that if we were careful and snowballed payments as we cleared one, we could be in a position where we owe nothing at all by (drumroll please....) July 2011. He really liked this idea :T .
We have had some form of debt since we first got together more than 10 years ago, so being debt free seems like a dream.
Taking more steps to sort things out. Sent off the first letter to our old bank to begin reclaiming charges today. We will get this all sorted.
It's hard work but just think of the freedom and relief once you get through the other side of this. Good luck!If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
Thanks Roberto. We ignored this for so long, partly because we felt it was all so awful we didn't want to face it. Now we have set it all out it looks more managable than we thought.
Actually dealing with the bailiffs (albeit by phone and letter) has taken away my worry about them. I'm paying the debt, I know my rights and I feel much happier about it all.
Really can't wait to ditch the debt! LB 22/2/09 Debt at LB £46216.64 Debt now £42657.28 Paid off £3559.36/£46216.64 (7%)CTax arrears paid £1341.72/£4821.85 (£3480.13) 28%:eek:Pay off £15K by Xmas '09 £3559.36/£15000 24%£1000 in 100 days £45/£10000 -
A quick update.
We have now received 2 letters from the bailiffs - one, which starts 'without prejudice', says they acknowledge our letter and will write once it has been investigated.
The second, which has the exact same date says "Final Notice - Bailiff Removal. A bailiff will be attending you property within the next few days to remove goods to settle your outstanding debt. At the time of our visit we may remove without further notice goods including motor vehicles even in your absence. To avoid this action you must contact our enforcement office...No further notice will be given prior to the action detailed above." The amount stated includes the charges we are disputing and no mention is made of the amount we said we would pay.
They really are nasty! LB 22/2/09 Debt at LB £46216.64 Debt now £42657.28 Paid off £3559.36/£46216.64 (7%)CTax arrears paid £1341.72/£4821.85 (£3480.13) 28%:eek:Pay off £15K by Xmas '09 £3559.36/£15000 24%£1000 in 100 days £45/£10000 -
Received our bank statements for stage 1 of reclaiming. The total charges are over £2000    . In some months we got charges of over £200 - no wonder things got very tricky at times. So on to stage 2. LB 22/2/09 Debt at LB £46216.64 Debt now £42657.28 Paid off £3559.36/£46216.64 (7%)CTax arrears paid £1341.72/£4821.85 (£3480.13) 28%:eek:Pay off £15K by Xmas '09 £3559.36/£15000 24%£1000 in 100 days £45/£10000

I trying to keep up momentum although it is difficult as work is really busy. I have sent off the letter reclaiming charges, and another letter asking for the ppi on my loan to be cancelled.
So far we have had nothing new from the bailiffs, which is weird. We did get a letter from the old CTax which said that the 2nd amount we owe is not subject to a summons so they can't make an arrangement. When/if the summons is issued then they will make the arrangement. How mad!
Doing very badly on the NSDs at the moment, but I'm hoping it will improve later in the month. OH has the dentist today so I am a bit anxious about how much that will cost. LB 22/2/09 Debt at LB £46216.64 Debt now £42657.28 Paid off £3559.36/£46216.64 (7%)CTax arrears paid £1341.72/£4821.85 (£3480.13) 28%:eek:Pay off £15K by Xmas '09 £3559.36/£15000 24%£1000 in 100 days £45/£10000 -
Damn! OH had to go to the dentist - needs a tooth out and it is going to cost about £200 all told. Typical. Perhaps I'll have to try that feng shui thing with toilet seats.

Finally, a letter from the bailiffs - they have said their charges are correct and give a breakdown that only includes the 2 visit charges! :rotfl: They say that the other fees have been removed (including a levy on a car we don't own) as they were at the wrong address. They also say that the council gave them the wrong details. Then they have the nerve to ask us to phone them!
I am going to write explaining how we will clear the remainder and telling them that we will not contact them by phone due to the inaccuracy and rudeness of their staff.
NSD going very badly at the moment. I will have to try harder. LB 22/2/09 Debt at LB £46216.64 Debt now £42657.28 Paid off £3559.36/£46216.64 (7%)CTax arrears paid £1341.72/£4821.85 (£3480.13) 28%:eek:Pay off £15K by Xmas '09 £3559.36/£15000 24%£1000 in 100 days £45/£10000 -
Good for you! As well as making a formal complaint to the Council I would also write to your local Councillor and tell them you are not happy with the bailiffs. It might just get dealt with at a higher level in the Council then.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

And make sure that the bailiff is actually registered to enforce the debt that they are trying to enforce - herbie 21 can help you with this0
