  • I completely agree with the posts here. Taloolah, you've summed it up well.

I've had times when I was new, or rather, hadn't really posted much, and made mistakes as I was new to all of this, and some people were downright rude and nasty, and it almost scared me away. It's a combination of misunderstanding and oversensitivity I guess. Some of the old timers who have been here for years get bored and annoyed with the same questions over and over. If that was me, I'd just ignore the thread if I couldn't be bothered to play nicely. There is no need to be rude.

Overall, the upset of a few peoples' ill-thought words has been negated by the fun, freebies, discounts, prizes and support I've found on these forums. Don't let anyone stop you coming here if you want to be here. I see everyone as equal; Martin posts among us and has even been known to respond to people on threads. So if the man who owns the site doesn't see himself as above us, who is some jumped up random poster from wherever, to think otherwise about themselves. Rise above it.

Gotta admit I'm sick of people saying "google is your friend" or "use the search function"

The search function on this site is dire at best, about time Martin hired a decent coder to do some work on here.

I agree. It would probably take as long to post the answer or at least a link. Why do people waste their time posting a reply like that when they're clearly annoyed that it was asked. I don't enjoy making people feel uncomfortable.

If we all had to use the search function for every question, there would be no discussion! :)

I guess I count as an old timer - I'm here partially because I must enjoy typing the same answers out over and over again! I don't really see it that way though because everyone is different - often the search wouldn't answer someone's question exactly.

I helped save someone 1400 pounds the other day; it's stuff that I and others have said before a few times but how would they know to look for that?

Well I'm glad you said that - I'm an 'oldie' but haven't yet managed to get any sense out of that darn search function!

    I agree.

There are some people on here that think that there way is the right way or no way.

Also they think that they own the site as kings and queens and the rest of us are just idiots....

    We are not worthy...

    Hello Folks :p

The sarcastic comments were from people with 3 stars or more, who had been members for 2 years or less.

I fall into this category and would like to think I try and be helpful and civil - please don't tarnish us all with the same brush!!:D - as you say just remember the majority of good posts that you read and remember there is no such thing as a stupid question - keep asking

The best thing to do is to ignore the detractor and pay attention to the constructive posters. This forum now has almost half a million users, and the number of ignorantly churlish members is considerable.

Just ignore, ignore, ignore them. They won't go away if you give them the opportunity to come back at you again and again.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

As you'll see in my first post, I wasn't tarring everyone with the same brush at all, it's just that many of the negative comments have come from people in that category. Not by all means most, just some, and more than before! :o

Sadly I think there's some truth in what you say. There are many who are inpatient with newbies; and rather than explaining politely what athe problem maybe - go straight into an agressive mode.

However its a very difficult balance to come up with.

Apparently the forum is the 10th most popular social networking site in the UK. Given the number of members and the volume of traffic I guess the wellworn www caveat applies "The odds are good and sometimes the goods are odd".
That, mixed with some members - longstanding or otherwise - becoming territorial about the site and fending off boarders as they see fit, is quite a recipe.
I've heard mumsnet is said to be even worse ;)
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
