Nationwide online TalkBack 23 February

Posts: 839 Forumite
Hey guys, just to let you know that Nationwide is having one of them online talkback events on 23 February 2006 - 6pm-7pm
They don’t normally advertise this much (ie they don’t normally put it on the online banking sigh off page), don’t know why.
Anyway, if you want to submit a question you can go to http://www.nationwide.co.uk/about_nationwide/listeningtoyou/
All those who cant get nationwide to give you a debit card then you can ask;
Bernard Simpson: Chief Operating Officer and DCE
Philip Williamson: Chief Executive
Why it is so hard to get a debit card and why they don’t offer solo/E Visa

I've just submitted this question:
I would like to know why Nationwide persists in the practice of imposing punative penalty charges on your customers when they breach their contracts with you. You should be aware that the contracts into which your company enters with your customers, both for current accounts and for credit cards, contain clauses that, if tested in the courts, would be found to be penalties and, therefore, not legally enforceable.

I don't like the fact that this wonderful forum started transforming to a branch of www.bankchargeshell.co.uk recently. I think urgent intervention of Martin is needed and all such posts should be directed to a special board - something like Vent, Bent & Heaven Sent .moxie wrote:Can't wait for thieir response!

That is one of the reasons I started the https://www.bankactiongroup.com forum - to specialise in that subject and to let this forum be about moneysaving, not money-gettingback.0

The most intresting thing is they are re-thinking there stand on student acounts and posibly debit cardsBryan Stuckey: do you offer any special student accounts or a special student package?----
Bernard replies: We’re actively investigating the opportunity to offer a student current account. Our standard FlexAccount offers competitive rates and features, some of which are attractive to students (such as free card use overseas). However, we’re aware that features such as interest free overdrafts are really important. Development is well underway, so I’m confident we’ll be able to say more about our plans later this year.Lynsey Riddel: Question for Philip - I am a 17 year old student and have been a customer with N/W since 1988 - I appreciate the fact that you give a very good interest rate on the Smart account but I and a few of my friends are going to need a current account (when we hopefully get to University). I know the flex account offers free banking and a good interest rate for monthly credits but as a student i will not have an income - we have been shopping around and find that a lot of your competitors offer special current account packages to students eg Northern Bank offers full debit card facilities, complete free banking, no charge for use of ATM withdrawals, additional credit card of up to £500 credit and the big attraction of up to £2000 no interest charge overdraft - this package is attractive!! I therefore ask the question does N/W have any plans to introduce an incentive for poor pennyless students like myself???
From Lynsey - tempted to stray from N/w!!!
Philip replies: Lynsey - Thanks for your question and for being a loyal Nationwide customer. I have to confess you are right - we don't have any particular accounts for students but watch this space. We will be having a very careful look at this in the very near future.0 -
I see they did not take any questions regarding their strict policy giving their customers a debit card. I emailed them one, but that was ignored as well.0

And my question was ignored too, what a surprise (not).Total debt May 2005 £83,232 :eek:
