MyDs on the other hand can eat a pound of sausages in an evening or a whole steak round  (our butchers has a pie man who seems to spend his whole time doing steak and mince rounds) he's now at uni and made me laugh at xmas when he sed 'i get through so much milk' i know son, who d'you think's been buying it all these years :rotfl:MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

reformed butcher buyerr again these last 6 months ,i was sick of cooking the sm mince it was inedible brown worms and i dont care but ALL the chicken no matter what the date smelt bad. my butcher does a £12 parcel...a chickenor a beef silverside,1lb steak saus, 1lb frying steak,1lbpork steaks,1lb veg roll (sausage and scallions and tomatoe) 6 eggs and pk bacon price has went up to 13.50 in last few weeks due to inflation but even still its great also forgot i get a half lbmince in there too. and he doesnt mind if you swap stuff for other stuff. iusually bring it up to 20 quid by adding chicken breasts ....must come from a goose they so big, and a garlic slices etc.... no never again will i comprimise my family to eat sm meat again. i will eat less quality meat and enjoy knowing its local....within 7 miles away . i can stretch this to 2 weeks meals with the help of adding a shin to the list for soup. so i would try out the butchers its more nutricious .C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

We have an awarding winning butcher near by, I always buy my meat there, I had assumed it was abit naughty of me money wise, so it's great to know that I am wrong
The only problem is that I LOOOVE meat lol, so I am often tempted by their goodies........but saying that, we brought a pork belly stuffed with a hand made pancetta, black pudding, red wine, garlic and sausage meat (gluten free) stuffing, huge piece for £4 which did 2 meals for the 5 of us and was so tasty!
Also, you can ask for whatever you would like and they will do it fresh for you, can't be beaten0 -
I've not long moved house - where I lived before, there was one butcher in the 'local village' shopping centre. One of those that advertises itself as a 'Master Butcher' - but you can tell from the vast number of pre-packaged items on display that it's no such thing
.
Where I am now, there's a small family run butcher's that's been in the town centre for generations. I've been in there a couple of times and it looks as though it may become a 'regular habit', once I've run down the entire contents of my freezers and used up all that's in there at the moment.
There's also a 'Yates' Greer' - a pork specialist that does 'proper traditional' pork pies (with jelly) and all manner of ribs / ham shanks / pork shanks etc.0 -
I don't buy meat anymore from the supermarket, the only hing I have bought s beef mince from lidl.
Everything else is bought from butchers. One butchers I use is a halal butcher for chicken and boneless mutton, my normal butcher can't beat the price ( please dont judge me for buying halal meat, I'm not interested on how it is killed I'm only interested in getting great food and lots of it cheap £7 for 2kg of chicken breast and they are huge, so I half them and freeze each half separately). Whilst I'm in there I buy really cheap herbs n spices in big bags and lots of fresh veg as well as parsley and coriander. I wash it bag it and label then freeze, I probably only need to go every 1.5 months.
My second butcher I buy beef and pork from and he has things already bagged in £5 bags which is great.
The difference between supermarket and butchers is huge, non of my meat from both butchers shrink and they taste like meat!Ds2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j

Ask the butcher if they deliver. Most do, as they tend to have trade customers. Mine delivers for free if you spend over £30 so I bulk buy about once a month and freeze it0 -
my butchers is fantastic, rump steak is the same price per kilo as asdas. the eggs are also alot cheaper per dozen than asdas.the meat is alot tastier than supermarkets.:The will also deliver if you ask him, :)i can ring my order in advance to him then nip in and pick it up in no time at all.0

Much as I'm a huge fan of our local butcher's shop, we've found that Mr M's butchery counter has some good meat, too. Again, like the local shop, the butcher (ie not counter staff) is able to give advice about cuts of meat etc. My Mum insists on buying Mr M's lamb chops, because she reckons they're a lot more tender than those bought in the butchers. Not sure I agree with her, but each to their own.
My OH loves the local butcher's handmade sausages, and buys loads. I'm not a great fan of sausages, particularly pork or pork-based, but the lamb and mint ones are wonderful!:)0 -
I wondered what the heck had happened to this thread - it grew from 2 pages to 20 pages overnight! I've figured out it's been merged!0
