Thats how my account with PAYPAL is set up....

So why this £7.50 deduction ?

The easiest way for you to check is to log into your paypal account and see the exact details. I had a payment going from my secondary account last week so I have opened that payment and it shows the following:

    Total payment from paypal £30.60.
Funding type: PayPal Funds and Credit Card
    £7.16 GBP - PayPal Account
    £23.44 GBP - Card Switch XXXX-XXXX

Then checking my bank statement it shows 'paypal San Jose £23.44.

It is my secondary account and I just use it for goods not necessarily on ebay so I don't have a credit card listed only a debit card. Paypal refer to all cards as 'credit' but as can be seen from the above transaction it is my debit card (ie my bank) that has been debited.

In your instance I would suggest that you had a 49p credit in your paypal account that was used first, then the balance of £7.50 was taken from your debit card which shows as Paypal San Jose.

I find it difficult to explain what I mean in a e mail, but i hope this makes sense. basically you had insufficient funds in your paypal account so paypal have gone to your next method of payment which appears to be a debit card. You can in future register a credit card and set that as the default payment (after paypal funds) in you prefer.

Hmm, Just looking back over this thread I see you have said that you also have a £7.99 switch payment to the guy direct for the game.

You really need to check your paypal account and see what has gone through it and if necessary call paypal direct.

In my case when I use a credit card on my primary account to fund items it shows, as you stated, '£xx.xx to Mr Bloggs/Paypal', however all payments via my bank account (switch card) on my secondary account just show Paypal San Jose. I always understood this to be because with a debit card payment paypal were actually pulling funds from my bank account to increase the level of my paypal account so that payment could be made direct in one go.

If your paypal account clearly shows two payments then you need to call paypal pronto.

  • This £7.50 payment to PAYPAL San Jose doesn't show up on my PAYPAL account anywhere >:(

What the hell is this deduction for ?

To make things worse, the seller has responded via Paypal saying they posted the item to me but has no proof of tracking etc.

Paypal say they will continue the investigation.

Will they be on my side as this seller has shafted 9 other buyers by ignoring them, all e-mails to them still bounce and other buyers still haven't got their purchases ?
    .
  • Yea paypal will be on your side, if they have no proof of postage. And they will try a charge back if there are sufficient funds in his/her account. If theres not sufficient funds then thats it. :-/

The seller needs proof of delivery , not just proof of postage to prevent a chargeback being successful.

    From PAYPAL:

Our investigation of this complaint is now complete.

The seller provided the following tracking information:

    Tracking Number:
Tracking Company: UK Cannot Provide Tracking

This tracking information did not adequately confirm dispatch.
Therefore, we attempted to award you a full refund. Unfortunately, there were insufficient funds available in the seller's PayPal account to complete the refund.

PayPal does not consider this a satisfactory resolution of this complaint. We have taken action against this seller's account until the complaint has been resolved.

No further action is required of you at this time.

We value your business and regret this experience. To make sure future transactions proceed smoothly, we suggest reading our Security Tips.

Any portion of the payment which was funded with your credit card will be refunded directly to your credit card. Credits to a credit card generally take 2-3 business days to post, and may not be immediately reflected in the card's balance.

So it's good news, but also BAD as the seller obviously takes peoples PAYPAL payments as soon as they're made then withdraws it :(

What are my refund chances you reckon ?

They ain't selling anything else on ebay anymore :-/

...and check their continuing apalling feedback rating :

    http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedbackFromBuyers&userid=zarothustra&items=-1&item=-1&de=off

Why can't eBay / PayPal shut this cowboy down ? :'(:'(:'(

  • I stupidly paid them through PAYPAL with my SWITCH card, and not my credit card. Make any difference ? I have now put my primary payment card BACK to my credit card....

My story too, except that my item was received but was not as described.  Seller was not PayPal "verified", so they didn't want to know.  eBay are insisting I get a valuation by a specialist (even though seller blithely admits wrong description), which, if I had a local specialist, would bring my total costs to more than I can claim back...

I could strangle an eBay director or three!!!

SWITCH CHARGEBACKS - My bank (HSBC) said they can only do chargebacks when the card itself has been fraudulently used.

I don't understand how you've got PayPal to go through with your complaint (unless seller was verified?) - they just put mine on record.

My seller certainly wasn't PAYPAL verified - unfortunately for me.

If you log into your account remembering to only access it through their SECURE server (https://www.paypal.com/) then go to RESOLUTION CENTRE and fill in the required details to start the complaint going....

    Good luck.
