  • The Doit4real camps were the best thing ever last year. They were well fed, all organic, they did so many activities I couldn't believe it! They had good accommodation, well disciplined and monitored. They were excellent, well worth the £100. Unfortunately you can only go for £100 once, this year it would cost me £350 each, so my kids wont be able to go again.

I do think the camps are worth £350, but I don't have £700 for two kids.

    Hope this helps.

smae here, my two eldest daughters did the dance course.
whilst it took them several hours to travel to the centre, they both thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

my middle daughter has made a good friend from there and keeps in constant touch.

well worth the £100, not sure about paying £350 though
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

I was chatting to my family this weekend and they told us that our neice went to a camp last year. She had a brilliant time and will be going again. Mum and Dad are happy to pay the extra (to have some peace and quiet:rolleyes: ) so that she can go this year too.:D

My youngest went last year and really enjoyed it.You can order a brochure from doit4real.co.uk.If you are in receipt of income support or housing ben or free school meals,it`s only £25 a week.I didn`t know about only going once for £100 though.
Last year her mother sent the forms.I live at a different village and wonder if I can get away with applying myself this year and using daughters middle name.I think my conscience wouldn`t trouble me too much.

The trouble is, you then have to make your child lie when they are at camp, committing them to not mentioning that they've been before. I wouldn't be prepared to put that onto the children.

They really want to go again, and I don't receive any benefits, but that doesn't mean I have £700 either!

Last year,I saw a poster on the hospital notice board saying that if you were a member of Unison, then the union would subsidize the hol so that you only pay £25.I don`t know if they will be doing the same this year.My daughter highly recommends the performing arts week at Hampstead.
    bj-sailaway - she is too honest.Shame.
  • Hi,

I registerd to get the brochure sent out when they got them and received mine today. Over dinner I asked my step-son if he would like to go with a friend or two for his 16th birthday present (he would be there for his birthday) and he grunted and said he' think about it.

I am furious that he is such an ungrateful sod and if he decides he wants to go when he has 'thought about it' - I hope that there is no space left for him and that a more deserving child gets a place instead.

When I was a kid very lucky to be able to go on a PGL holiday - I had the most fantastic time, conquered many fears, made fantastic friends and today my favourite album is still the soundtrack to TopGun (we watched it on the final night at camp) - no laughing please!! It still gives me goose pimples when I listen to it!

I work on a community project and meet so many children that don't have the opportunity to participate in these kind of camps, I think that it is disgusting that the schools here don't have a system in place that allows children from low income families to go on the exciting and very expensive school trips. To be able to go on a doit4real holiday that should cost £350 for £25 is fantastic - this kind of holiday can have a huge impact on a childs life. I think it is really important for children to have the opportunity to try things they think they can't do - they can gain a geat deal of confidence from this and keep it with them for the rest of their lives.

I am rambling now (have had a glass of wine or two!)...

I hope that lots of thoroughly deserving children get to benefit from this fantastic programme and well done to the Big Lottery Fund for funding a project that really does benefit a considerable number of young people.

    End of rant.

Too much wine to check spellings/grammar...sorry.
  • I just read my post - and wanted to clarify that I wasn't saying that anyone elses children weren't deserving - just mine!
