  • I have filled in the nuisance phone calls form on the Debt Advice Bureau's website

I have only put my name and postcode, no phone number and used an old email address I have. I've also told them that if I receive any further unsolicited calls/mail or emails, I will assume they have passed my details on and I will report them to the Information Commissioner and the Office of Fair Trading.

I have also reported the telephone calls to the TPS, Information Commissioner and Office of Fair Trading.

    We shall see...

Don't know about anyone else, but they told me - the guy said that he was in South Asia and that only someone in Leicester was authorised to provide me with their address or telephone number....needless to say, the Leicester office was closed for the night so he would be unable to transfer me thru....

Have you got a link to their website? I can't find one that I'm confident enough to be theirs......
  • i have been hounded by this company now for mths with about 5 calls a day sometimes they ring then ring 2 minutes later if i dont answer the phone to them. i have threatened them with everythin it doesnt work. i have tried ignoring them it doesnt work, i am at my wits end and have recorded all the nuisance calls they have been making to me. if i ask them nicely not to ring me they say yeh then next day i got calls.. why are they allowed to do this?? looks like i am going to have no choice but to change my phone number,i dont see why i should though, if i ask them who they are they say they are based in leicester,if i ask for a conact number they say they need more of my personal inofrmation which i refuse to give them. have hooked up to the free telephone preference service now but it still doesnt seem to be stopping them.. i have contacted the financial ombudsman and also trading standards.half the problem seems to be that noone can do anything without their telephone details... major problem as the call comes up as unavailable.

Same for me - several calls a day - asked them to stop - still calling. Have advised that I was going to report them to the FSA and Ofcom - still calling. Like the other member, I asked them for their address, tel no, etc - all they could give me or were authorised to give me was the town - Leicester. Looked at companies house website and did a search for Debt Advice Bureau - nothing in Leicester. Can somebody go through with the call and get all the details? Any advice to stop these calls?

Had the same call and Indian chap said he was in Leicester
I challenged him, where he had got my name and number from he said from a data list it was not a sales call it was advice from the GOVERNMENT.
I asked if he got my name and number from the government, and was he calling everyone in the country, to which he replied yes!
I said I dont take unsolicited sales calls, he assured me it wasn't a sales call he was giving me advice, I said if i wanted advice I would seek it out myself. I told him it was unlawful to withhold his number he said they didn't have a phone number to call as they make all their calls via the internet. I asked him for the number he called if he was ill for his work, or late, he said he never called the office. I asked him for the address of the location he was working in Leicester and he again refused to give me that information or sidestepped the question.

I dont think putting your details on the website of debt advice bureau will help - just gives them more details, for further & future harassment.

Here is the registered address of the website Domain name:
    debtadvicebureau.org.uk

    Registrant:
    Debt Advice BUreau Online Limited

    Registrant type:
UK Limited Company, (Company number: 3705107)

    Registrant's address:
    Audit House
    43 Broom Knoll
    East Bergholt
    Colchester
    Essex
    CO7 6XN

    GB

as an online company there is not any other proper registered/contact address on their website.
 check out companies house website put company number in above they used to be called self select finance limited among other things.

Mr Stephen Rose is director for 12 affiliated company's some dissolved, including Freepay limited (a Bank?) clientsmart ltd, out of the red limited, reposearch, two of his sites are linked as financial news/info sites from debt advice bureau website- his registered address is as above and clientsmart ltd brings up a telephone number on a google search He is the registered owner at the same address above of the linked news website inspecie and or reporadar all roads lead to the same destination and/or name.

Looks like a job for watchdog and/or the FSA/Fraud squad!

Incidentally the chap cut me off when I asked him to find out what list his company had purchased my name and number from.

Within two mins of his disconnection, I got one of those lovely pre-recorded Americanised messages aimed at visa or mastercard owners offering to lower my rates...I replaced handset in 3 seconds again number withheld so would guess it was payback for tearing the original caller off a strip.

They phoned the wrong gal here!

Jobsearcher, looks like the same outfit.

They make calls from the internet, so no matter where they are located the number wont be traceable VOIP.

If you google clientsmart you will get a Colchester number.

They need reporting as I fear that someone who's in debt/desperate/vulnerable will fall for their offers, which I expect will be to consolidate loans using other companies under Mr Rose's directorship or pay for advice/services from same, that are freely and safely available at citizen advice bureaus across the country.

Have done it, kabebz - I started a new thread as it covers 'services' other than, although including, IVA's:

But the link to the article is:
