Anybody ever invested in wood.

  • I'm stumped that some people still haven't twigged that wood is knot the root to success. Far better to branch out into other areas of investment. Investing in wood will sap your bank balance; and leaf you broke; oak-ay.;)
  • this was a craze in india quite a few years ago. teak wood, rose wood especially of the good kind cost big money, prices rocketed over the years, quality can be difficult to grade especially for the novice. trees can be affected by rot so plantation can have damaged trees affecting value. also value depends on the thickness of the trees and where knots etc appear on them or holes in the trunk etc affect valuation. investing in teak trees etc is very risky for people without an agricultural background or good knowledge of the teak business. loads of scamsters around.

having bought teak for our house in the past in bulk to have furniture made to order etc, i wouldnt recommend this option as an investment for most ordinary people. very difficult for us to know the good and the bad types of teak, valuations etc. and stock can get screwed by termites etc

i would buy teak again as having furniture made from teak abroad, one just has to change the cushions/covers for a small price and just a few mins of our time but the furniture still is almost as good as new after 18y now, know others who later bought teak etc in bulk to have furniture made to order.

but i would keep away from such agricultural investments, far too risky for me and i am saying that even if i know people who traded in agricultural commodities for decades and have relatives who have some agricultural plantations etc even now.

    Money doesn't grow on trees.

Except in the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

    FORD:
How can you have money if none of you actually produce anything? It doesn’t grow on trees you know!

    MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT:
You'd know if you would allow me to continue!

    CAPTAIN:
    Yes let him continue.

    MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT:
Since we decided a few weeks ago to adopt leaves as legal tender, we have, of course all become immensely rich.

    FORD:
    No really? Really?

    CROWD MEMBERS:
    Yes, very good move…

    MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT:
But, we have also run into a small inflation problem on account of the high level of leaf availability. Which means that I gather the current going rate has something like three major deciduous forests buying one ship’s peanut. So, um, in order to obviate this problem and effectively revalue the leaf, we are about to embark on an extensive defoliation campaign, and um, burn down all the forests. I think that’s a sensible move don’t you?

I've a friend who was given a lot of trees as an investment some 40 years ago. he doesn't earn anything out of them so I guess this one wasn't good for him. Canadian investment I think
