Epping? Loughton? close to Epping forest and direct into london with central line. Epping is close to M25 and M11. 800 may get you a 2 bed flat.0

I'm not sure on costs but just to give you an idea farnborough hants to waterloo approx 50min Woking 35min these times are a lot quicker than some nearer stations not sure if it would be cheaper overall probably not.0

I live in tunbridge wells and work in Blackfriars, get off train at Waterloo East station, it then goes on to Charing X. It is 50 mins on the train and they are pretty regular. Alsi if you get on a TW you will get a seat! Rental for a 2 bed around here is about £650 - £900 depending on your preferences. Most decent places are around £800. You also have the choice of TW station in the centre or High Brooms, 5 mins away - also where houses are cheaper to rent. Hope that helps. i certainly love living down here and you are also only 25 mins from the sea adn there are lots of green spaces. a great place to live.0

Forgot to mention train prices. daily return from TW to london is £27.30, you can get a monthly season for about £290 and a yearly season is nearly £3k.0

Yeah.. I am starting to think living a little bit out is better for the money - pay an extra £100 a month on the season ticket, but maybe £200+ off on the rent so will work out cheaper than living in. It seems to be coming down to places like Farnborough or Tunbridge Wells - large towns but with good access to the countryside sounds the best to me.
I think I do air on the side of Surrey though, but maybe Kent would be better and cheaper - at the end of the day, we want to save for a deposit so we can buy!0 -
The only thing I would say is that Farnborough is not the nices of places, some of the surrouding places are ok Farnham for instance which is on the main line to waterloo and not a much longer commute.0

Hmmmm thanks. i must say, looking at Tunbridge Wells, ok it's on hour by train but it takes you to Charing Cross, looks very nice, and very good value for money really. Just looking at Tonbridge and that looks even better at a 40 minute commute and is a little cheaper as well - certainly starting to favour Kent really because of the prices being cheaper. Thanks for all your thoughts0

Its also really convenient not only for London and the M3 but also for Southampton and Portsmouth for days out, and there's good shopping in Basingstoke too.
