Be careful if you have Orange care!!

A word of warning. If you have not bought your phone package and phone direct from Orange, and then have Care added to it, Orange will NOT honour the insurance if you need to make a claim. This I found out to my disgust when after 9 months of paying £5 per month for the cover, i had reason to claim as my phone had developed a fault. Orange told me as I had not bought the package from them (I got it from Carphone Warehouse) it was a generic, IE.it did not have the Orange logo on it, and they do not cover generic phones. I argued that they had accepted the contract, and they should honour it, but no, they don't see it that way, all they are obliged to do is return my premiums!!! I contacted Trading Standards, and guess what, they are right!!!! So, how much money do you think Orange make a year out of this scam, taking insurance money, but refusing claims when they arrise, not to mention the people who don't make a claim, they are not informed that a mistake was made, and offered there money back. Luckly, I took my phone to the nice people at my local CWH, and had it fixed the same day. I for one, will never take out another Orange contract again, even if they are the cheapest. You see, you can't put a price on honesty, and service.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

  • (I got it from Carphone Warehouse) t was a generic

So this is either down to you not being told at the time of purchase or you not knowing ,not sure how Orange can be blamed.

Orange knew the phone was a generic, as when you want to take out Care, you have to give them the serial number of the phone, but someone slipped up and let me have the insurance, thats how they can be blamed!! and why should Carphone Warehouse have to tell people that they cannot get Orange care, in fact, the guys at my local store didn't even know, they said from now on it would help them to sell there own insurance instead. The reason for this post is just to warn people to be careful when they buy a phone, and of course, to have a go at Orange.

All this is a complete con on orange's part "Yes we'll insure you, but only if you have our b*st*rdised version of the handset, which you will need to have Orange care for, as the Orange firmware is a bug-ridden piece of cr*p and you will have to have several replacement handsets before you get one that actually works".

Stick with the generic firmware, approach CPW to see if they will cover it on their insurance.

  • I'm afraid you'll find cpw wont beable to put you on their own cover, because it has to be done within 14 days of purchuse. You'll find Orange care will do anything to get out of accepting a claim. Sorry mate!
