can we please delete this thread please as im soooooooooo jelous i would love to go to france but 2 scared to drive lol
TRY it, you will not regret it.
I only passed my test 2 years ago (and at 37 I do not learn things quickly.) I find it very easy to adapt.
Most of the motorways are dual carridgeways, the roads are empty, except for tractors! The biggest difference is the french dont know how to use roundabouts. They seem scared of the inside lane!
give it a go!!0 -
we're using Keycamp for the first time this year, we're going to Britanny.
We found the tent were the cheapest accom to thru Keycamp, but obviously you get what you pay for. But we're used to camping in UK so being in a tent isn't a problem for us, might be for others.
We aslo found that it was a similar or cheaper to go Key cmap than it would be to use a static van in UK. It was the ferry fare that cost an arm and a leg. we're using Plymouth-Roscoff, as it means we don't ahve to drive very far in France.
Am sure on the keycamp site you can look and see what attractions are close to the camp.
Cant help anymore than that at the moment other than to suggest looking at reviews on trip advisor.
Thats exactly what we did our 1st year in france. Worked brilliantly. The keycamp tents seem to be the best layout and the reps were fab. the worst thing was the drive to Plymouth from Surrey.0 -
we have had decking the last few times we have been - only negative is they don't have a gate (last time we went eldest DD was 3 so we wanted her enclosed) but the inside table is heavy & turns on its side to fit the gap!!!!
I don't drive in France but OH is happy to do all the driving, this year we are off to the South of France so about a 10h drive (with two little ones!!!)0 -

that's the bit i'm not looking forward to either, we're also in Surrey, and our ferry leaves at 8am. So we've gotta be in Plymouth no later than 7.15:eek: OH is refusing to let me book travelodge, so will be a long day for us.0 -

You should be ok because it will be an overnight drive. The nightmare long road that is mostly single lane will be nice and quiet. Thats actually good planning!! Sleep on the boat!

Thats exactly what OH plans to do, but i get sick on a boating lake
so can't see me sleeping. Also with four kids some one need to be awake so they don't throw each other overboard:eek: (3 teenagers and a 10yr old that thinks he a teenager!)
Hopefully i'll be able to doze in car on way as I don't drive, but the way OH drives  can't see me relaxing enough to sleep.
Still will be worth it in the end I HOPE LOL0 -

That is the easiest bit to overcome. Its amazing how you adapt. Honestly, the french roads are long straight and empty. When you get to the coast everyone is a tourist learning the roads.:rotfl:
I can honestly say the worst thing about french driving holidays is getting off the boat back in england straight into traffic jams and congestion. It really brings you back to earth!0 -
I'd recommend Canvas Holidays (if they are still operating).
We used them every year for about 10 years while our kids were young and covered France pretty well during that time. The camp sites were brilliant and the tents very well kitted out with everything you'd need, and a comfortable double bed!
We always took our own car so that we could pack it with loads of stuff and bring back lots of wine.
Happy days - wish they could have gone on forever!0 -

They are still trading. They seem to have bought out "Camping Life", the tent and mobile home part of "French Life". Shame because they took Tesco Vouchers and Canvas don`t! Would love Canvas or Keycamp to start taking them. Siblu is the only choice at the moment and we had a falling out with them last year so I refuse to use them again! Silly Pride eh:rotfl:
We are going with Matthews Holidays to Benodet this year. Got a fantastic deal, so upgraded the ferry to a fastcraft. In my book, a quick 2 hour crossing is worth £2000
