Is It Normal To Have More Than One Current Account

Do you think it's normal for a person to have more than one current account. The person I spoke to at the bank today doesn't think it is so I'm interested in what others think.

Based on personal experience, I'd say it was a 60/40% split between those that bank in one place with one account, and those that have one or more accounts in different institutions.

It's not abnormal, but I don't think I'd say it was quite "normal" or to be expected.

I have 2 accounts with same bank - one for spending and one for bills etc. But also have a couple elsewhere for back-up. You never know when you need a spare account for something.

Which bank said it wasn't normal or whatever, for interest? I use HSBC who say 2 is fine, more than 2 is weird to them.

Is this because banks expect (or prefer) you to have one account with your salary going in and all your bills coming out, kinda so they can see your spending patterns etc as well..... Hmmm, one ponders BB for Banks LOL (sorry had to do it).

Hmmmm, Lets see... I just did a quick count in my head and I have 11 current accounts!

Think I will close a few, too many cards and login details!

But 1 account, that seems strange to me, I would have thought 2 would be the bare minimum?

    Cheers, Des.

i have about 12, including 5 with halifax. i'd find it very strange to only have one. have to spread the money around.

I thought there was a limit of 3 on the number of current accounts you can have with Halifax? You have 5 Halifax current accounts?

Entirely possible, eg 1 x Easycash (for it's Electron card and Ryanair flight booking etc), 1 x HICA, and 3 x Reward accounts. :D

I have 9 in total at the moment with 8 providers...soon to be 15 with the addition of 3 x Halifax Reward and 3 x BoS Reward accounts.

Received a call supposedly from Nationwide the other evening. I do have a Flex current account with Nationwide.

They said they were doing research about account features (something like that) and asked how many current accounts I had. I paused and counted to about 8 or so and gave that figure. The researcher then immediately terminated the call saying they only wanted to speak with people who had only one account!
