I doubt it. But have you asked at the benefits office perhaps it could be classified as training? So much for our much vaunted public transport system that they go on about. Really falls apart when you get to a rural location.
  • tell me about it i found a perfect job good hours good wage and all thats let me down is not driving

Sounds like learning to drive will be a good investment on your part then.

It didn't take that long or cost too much if you are reasonably competant.

Maybe get yourself on one of those 1 week intensive courses with a test at the end of it.

Ask in the benefits section, I'm sure it has been mentioned somewhere that someone had received cash to pay for some driving lessons. My guess is the Job Centre probably has a stash of cash and if they think throwing it someone's way will make one less of the unemployed statistics they're all for it. No doubt the Job centre is the best place to ask. I'm sure if you say you keep getting rejected for jobs because you can't drive (rather than asking for money for driving lessons) if they are able to help they will.

Is moving house not an option? If your house is a council house you may be able to arrange a swap somehow.
  • yes you can get help with driving lessons from your local jobcentre if it will help you back to work and means of transport are proven to be hard. I know this as a family member has just qualified for it :-) you are only entitled to do so many hours within a certain amount of time. They are paying for everything including his theory and practical test. Best of luck

If you can't afford to have driving lessons, how will you be able to afford a car and the costs to run it?

Serious question by the way, I don't mean it to sound nasty :)

Id say the OP is in a catch 22 situation, she can't afford a car until she gets a job, and she can't get a job until she gets a car. If the OP does get help with the cost of driving lessons atleast its half way to solving the problem. It will be good to see money being used to help people back into work rather than keep throwing money at people who DON'T want to work.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Can you get a loan either officially or from family...? Driving is a big plus...but then you also need a car to drive. What about a scooter/small motorbike on L plates?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Tell the Job centre that you want to drive trucks - there are HEAPS of jobs out there for 7.5tonne drivers and ask if they can do anything to help you get the license.

The benefit being that if you get a 7.5 tonne license you automatically get a "b" classification which is normal cars :D

Edit: The above idea of a scooter is a VERY good one. CBT (basic bike test) costs about £100 and covers scooters/small bikes (upto 125cc if you are over 17, 50cc if you are not). Scoots can be very cheap to pick up on ebay and are pretty cheap to insure too
