Generally you've 2 options OEM and retail. OEM will come with just XP home and thats it nothing else and is therefore the cheaper option.
For XP Home OEM SP3 you're talking about 55 to 70 quid0 -
what does retail xp come with0

A box, a manual, support from Microsoft and the ability to transfer the license to other machines.0

Though I'm not sure you can get retail anymore its more expensive and probably comes with things like nero cds and limited deeals on rubbish security software.0

What laptop is it? Sometimes the specs of say a netbook would have trouble running XP. Also does it have a CD drive?0

Are you wanting to just install windows or keep linux too?0

It's one of those acer aspire one from asda and i am looking to get rid of linux. I am going to buy a external cd drive for it0

How much ram have you got?
I would stick with linux but would put on a different kind of linux which would cost you nothing, just my preference though.0
