The bank opened a bank account for me when i never asked them too now i owe them £400

Just out of curiosity where you not receiving any bank statements? The account had been active since March '08, almost a year.
It shouldn't affect your credit rating unless they consider it a default in payment but before that even happens you need to have been contacted and written to you 1st to request payment. Looks like an annual fee they were asking for so it's should be ok but like mentioned before, check your credit rating anyway and get the bank to reimburse you and make a formal complaint to them.Minds are like parachutes - they only function when open.
