Tesco Clubcard Vouchers Rip Off

Has anyone else noticed that when buying a holiday with Tesco Clubcard deals, they are only worth around double the face value of the voucher. We have enquired withmany of the tour operators and they will only accept vouchers on the full brochure price - this is the price before ANY discount is applied. Most brochures are offering dicounts on these prices of up to 50%.

Therefore, a holiday I could buy at 50% off in the brochure eg.£500, will cost me £1000 of Tesco Clubcard Deals tokens.

£1000 holiday advertised with 50% OFF = £500
tESCO CLUBCARD PRICE = £1000
tESCO CLUBCARD vouchers £250 x 4 (cinverting into deals) = £1000
but I would be paying twice as much - so - my deals are only, in reality, worth the £500 I would pay if not using deals.


The operators say Tesco has forced them to do this and only pay them a percentage of the vouchers they redeem back to Tesco.

Is there any way of getting round this? Tesco seem to be offering a deal which in reality is not correct.

I feel I would be being ripped off if I paid out £1000 of clubcard deals when others were only paying £500 for their holiday. I know clubcard deals are extras but we have saved these for 2 years to afford a family holiday.

Has anyone else experienced this?

But Tesco vouchers cost nothing? So it is still value for money to use them.
We've been to Disney 4 times, Dublin flying once, near Marbella on a 1 week package last year, all completely paid for by Tesco clubcard vouchers. We have £600 worth left for this year which will pay for a week in the south of France for the Summer holidays, all we have to pay for is the train to get there. So every year for about 8 years we have had a free holiday. We have collected most of the points from online grocery shopping and from Tewsco credit card points. We have spent little extra in order to obtain the points. I can't see how this is a rip-off.

I wouldn't bother using them for holidays, as you said, you will lose a lot of their value by missing out on any discount.
They may be 'free' but you will miss out on their full value exchanging them for other things.
Days out and eating out are always excellent value. I have also exchanged at goldsmith and for magazines (I know you could get cheaper subscriptions)
and also pay for RAC (again, cheaper options available but I do prefer RAC)

Tesco advertise as 4 x the face value of vouchers. If I have to pay twice the price for my holday to those not using Tesco, I am therefore, only getting twice the face value of my vouchers, not the 4x as advertised by Tesco.

Tesco advertise up to 4 times the value with deals. But personally, 50% off a holiday, is alot better than any offer you can get from the travel agent if paying with cash

i just dont get why so many people get up in arms over tesco deals and holidays - you either take the paltry discount a travel agent will give you for paying for the whole holiday in cash, or you pay half price in deals tokens (which you have earnt for free by the way)

so techinically, if paying for the holiday in tesco vouchers, it has cost you nothing, and you are moaning the fact. Yes on paper it looks more expensive, but think about what you are actualy paying out - Nowt!

i was a bit annoyed last year when trying to use my clubcard vouchers for a virgin holiday.

I had to pay full brochure price and the discount was hardly worth it, virgin had an offer of £100 tesco gift card at the time which i was told i wasn't entitled to. But after a bit of haggling i managed to get the gift card thrown in as well.

The range of holidays seem to be smaller and the wording of the t&c seems to have changed, eg not combinable with other offers.

I fully understand why the OP is annoyed.

Hi I've just sent off for my clubcard deal vouchers and it seems OK to me. You do get 4 x face value for Virgin. I got a price from Virgin website for Florida later this year, then rang them to find out how much if I use vouchers, and the price was only about £40 more.

I too can understand why the OP is annoyed - as you can't use the deals vouchers on fuel surcharges, accommodation taxes, transfers, upgrades and anything else extra you may want to book, your 'free' holiday can end up being quite expensive if there are a few of you...
