Dell PC not recognising hardware

My Dell PC is not recognising my new camera or scanner.

Please help as I've got some lovely pictures of our new baby :-(

Panasonic Lumix FZ5 and HP Scan Jet 5300C.

I've tried the camera on a friend's PC and it picked it up OK. The software is installled but it just does not recognise when I pug in the USB.

Really appreciate your help

Have you tried a different usb socket? I no it may sound odd, but we have problem with a usb on a dell on the front usb, one works fine the other doesnt.

Yes none seem to work and starting to get annoyed with the PC. I'm going to contact dell support unless any other ideas.

Have you any other usb hardware you can try to see if its the usb ports. Cheers

Did the camera come with any drivers to install before you connect it to your usb connection?

Have you run Windowsupdate recently?

I have a Panasonic camera it didnt need the drivers in xp sp2, but it may be worth a shot.

I've had the same problem with new Dells & USBs. The odd USB just doesn't accept certain devices.
