Will I get Fine Through Post ???? Please Help
I am from swindon but I went to London today. I was driving past a shop and needed to quickly grab a bottle of water for my little one. I stopped/parked my car on Bus Stop (my wife and kids were still in car) and it took me maximum 5 minutes before I got back to my car.
It was a busy road. When I got into the car, my wife told me that Traffic Warden had been looking at the road tax disc and registration number of the vehicle. I simply drove off, he never said anything to me or tried to stop me .... there was no ticket on my vehicle.
I am just wondering if I got away with it, or will I get anything through post?
If anyone knows the law or have been in such a situation, please share it with me.
Thanks in advance

Even if he didnt physically put a ticket on your car you will most likely get one through the post and end up having to pay the higher amount that happened to me or you will be well lucky and get away with it. You could wait a few days and call your local council and they will let you know if you have a fine.0

Thanks for prompt response. What kind of fine did you get ?
Did you also get any points on license ?
Also please note that I was visiting London although mu local council is Swindon .... does that make any difference?0 -
You don't get points on your licence for 'normal' parking offences. I think you might for driving in a bus lane. But parked at a bus stop - don't think so. Did you notice what the actual parking restrictions there were?
Round here (Bristol) it's £60, reduced to £30 if you pay within 2 weeks. That's for tickets on the car. But you're lucky if they don't tow you away before you get back!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Depends which bit of London as well. Parking in a bus stop or bus lane is considered more than just a parking offence in some Boroughs but not in others. There are also bus lane cameras in some places that record your reg number and send you a fine later.
As for whether or not you were caught, you will probably have to wait and see unfortunately.

Was this a marked out bus stop? I would of thought that you could expect a fine. After all you admit that you were stopped in a bus stop when you shouldnt have been!Weight Loss - 102lb0

Was it a Traffic warden (police) or a council parking attendant? If it was the council then they may try it on with you, but you can insist on them showing you the evidence (a photograph of the ticket on your windscreen). If it was police they don't have to issue a ticket and can send you an NIP later.
I don't know but I think London does not have police traffic wardens anymore....anyone?
Also I think if it was council the letter you recieve will indicate that. If it was police the letter you recieve will be from the police and it will indicate that.
If I were you I wouldn't worry until you recieve the letter, and then determine who it is from etc etc. So don't just pay when it arrives...ask for more help first before paying up.
IMO he was just noting you down, had you been still there when he returned he would have issued the ticket.0 -
I was under the impression that the ticket had to be placed on the windscreen, even if the traffic warden is filling the ticket out,if you can get in and drive off, then you can "get away with it"
Saying that, traffic wardens are there for a reason !Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0 -
I think some places now have cameras watching places and get the number plates off there for the people that are parked where they shouldnt be? But saying that then the traffic warden probably wouldnt have been in that area then would he?Weight Loss - 102lb0

Carl,
If it is a police TW Yellow Band..they don't have to issue the ticket so I have heard, and witnessed one YB saying to a driver (as she drove away).
A council employed warden not only has to issue the ticket to the driver/windscreen but must also photo the car with the ticket on the windscreen...so I have been told.0 -
If a traffic warden has not affixed a ticket to your car before you drive away, then you
cannot get a summons through the post from his office. Most councils recommend a 2 or 3 minute "grace period", so you may have been lucky.
That's not to say that a camera might have noticed you, so you are not out of the woods yet.
I can't find the website I was looking at some time ago, that gives loads of info on fighting parking tickets but if you look at http://www.ticketbusters.co.uk it will
allay your fears about the parkng attendant. Or enable you to successfully fight any
claim from his office as he did not issue you with a ticket.0
