Good, then your next step is to talk to BT about connection charge, check if there is an existing box somewhere and if so stress this to them when you discuss. If they don't have to physically come out and do any work at your property then full rate should not be charged as long as you take their line rental.
Sorry to state the obvious, but you need to have the BT line reconnected before you can sign up for broadband with anyone else.

Is there any other landline providers? We can only have BT. Everyone we checked asked if we had a BT landline installed before we could get broadband and we had to give our telephone number here. Who else can you get your line rental from then?

I know you can broadband from anyone, but line rental?

You can have lanline rental from anyone who chooses to offer it - by "BT" it means a BT wholesale line, that line is offered to you by one of many retail landline providers. BT Retail is one, there is also Tiscali, TalkTalk, Post Office etc.

The catch is that many of the cheap provider don't offer new connections even though they could. That means for a new connection you need to intially go to a provider who does do connections, and then move.

A new connection from BT Retail also entails a minimum 12 month, you need to make sure that you are not still in contract if you decide to move line rental.
