Come on, it's not that bad for an unmoderated, open forum. It's rare to find a thread that degenerates into a slanging match, there's hardly any (relative to other unmodded forums) swearing or offensive behaviour and most posts are intelligible. The biggest source of conflict is from certain people interpreting a gloomy view on the housing market as 'talking down the economy' when in reality, it is just factual.

It's free tickets to an event, that lots of people go to and would otherwise pay for. And as it happens the theme this year is far more about renovating existing property.

Reading this does make me despair a bit. We managed to get some free tickets and gave them out. Actually they've been hugely popular and the number's been extended.

Is it really worth such negative sentiment?

And as for "Good market targetting though ... give away 10,000 free tickets to a site frequented by over-spenders with piles of credit cards" this is innaccuate, offensive in tone and if it is genuinely representative of what you think of the site. Surely its best you stop using it.

Hello Martin, IMHO I think you are being a bit over sensitive with that bit.

Firstly I accept that this site is a very broad church. On a personal level when I joined I was indeed an over-spender with piles of credit cards, I still have piles of credit cards, but different ones, having taken advise from you, your team, and the many many helpful people on the DFW board. I'd like to name them but fear I would miss a few out!

As a consequence I am now a saver, with piles of credit cards, fearful that the economic climate will undo all the gains that have been made thanks in the most part to the assistance I have received here.

I remember very well the stagflationary times of the 1970's when the advice of my parents and Grand-parents of saving for what you wanted didn't work as credit then was cheaper than the erosion of inflation, I just failed to adjust to the low inflationary times when the old ethics re-applied!

So in summary those types that PN refers to do exist, I just hope that they, like me, benefit from this site, and improve their financial position

  • Typical, first time somebody picks on me and it's Martin.
    Go me ...
If it's any consolation I wouldn't climb over you to get to Martin! But I guess that has nothing to do with money-saving, more me being sexist:D

I used to go to the Ideal Home show every year with my ex and thoroughly enjoyed it. I never really bought anything, but really enjoyed wandering around looking at all the demonstrations, new ideas and things. I enjoyed the free tasting area and watching the cooking demonstrations, it was a very good day out. My ex always wanted to spend a fortune on something, that was the only downside, but i never let him so no harm done there.

If had my own home now I'd defintelly go. At the moment though I think i'd just find it a bit depressing - living alone in one rented room. Maybe things will be looking up next year and I'll go then.

Keeping pigs is remarkably easy if you have the space. Had a couple of Gloucester Old Spots this year and it was no more work than the geese. Worked out at £200 per pig including feed, abattoir and butcher costs and they taste great. I've still got two big hams hanging up and a freezer full of tasty tasty pig.

DH is keen to do this, but I really find pigs very good at tugging on the heart strings. I don't think I could do the final drive with them :( Sheep on the other hand......:o

Martin, don't feed the trolls. Not in ANY way a criticism of you, more that people who makes posts like that are more than likely doing it to flame others. 99% of users come here to use the site for its intended purpose. The rest come here to annoy. I am sure I speak for the majority when I say we're really grateful for all the help and hard work from all your team. It's not easy to get that many free tickets for us all, I'm sure. :T

What !?, PN is one of the most respected members on this board, to call her a troll is ridiculous, I suggest you go back from where you came from, Martin's backside perhaps.

Calling someone a troll for a comment that clearly doesn't deserve it is in itself a troll-worthy comment (by definition).
