How can I tell if my cat is pregnant?

I just got a little girl, 6 months old approx. She was a farm cat and is really sweet. She is quite skinny but has a round tum.
How can I tell if she's pregnant?
I'm assuming she won't be peeing on a stick....

  • You cant tell if shes pregnant really until she so obviously is....if you know what I mean. A vet can tell you if you really need to know.

Otherwise, its not very likely. Even though cats CAN get pregnant at that age, they dont very often.

    Youll soon know anyway.

i think most kittens have little rounded bellies. ours certainly has and my old cat i seem to recall did aswell when she was a kitten. trip to the vets though i think. have you been worming her?
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
  • its always a possiblity if she has access to the outside,
if u dont want kittens then u need to take her to the vet, and book her in to be spayed. if she is pregnant, than the risks of the op will be reduced if done sooner rather than later

    please get her neutered.

i recently knew of a cat that we suspected might be pregnant - she was incredibly affectionate, tummy rounded and the local toms seemed very interested in her. she went to the vet for a scan and he couldn't see any kittens. Her tummy become incredibly wide at the sides and her nipples became quite large..four weeks after her scan she gave birth to three kittens!

    could be worms though too.

    good luck!
  • a visit to the vets is needed - 6 months is very young if she is pregnant, and being skinny with a big belly is not normal - if not pregnant she could well have a bad worm problem.

The first signs of a pregnancy in a cat is the nipples going a deep pink colour and they start to enlarge.

I'd think it's more likely worms than Kittens but please check & Spay her. When I worked at Stables they had two 'farm Cats', Sisters who were both 5 months old when I started there & living outside, at 14-15 months they both had their first litters, I started in the August & they were 5 months old, they had their first litters on May 2nd & May 26th the year after. It might be that both were slow to mature, or no toms appeared, but i'm sure once they were ready the toms found them.

I was the first to notice & when I did they were close to having them, they became huge at the sides & when viewed from behind looked like they had beach balls in them!

Also, the one Cat had 3 Kittens & the other had 5, but they weren't the healthiest of Kittens & I had one from each litter, the one from the litter of three was an evil thing & he'd bite anything except my Dad, the one from the litter of 5 had a heart murmur & they wanted to check him again before Castrating him but he had to be PTS from FIP aged 6 months.

Sorry to ramble, just saying they may (If she's pregnant) not be the friendliest or healthiest of Kittens & she may have worms & not be pregnant, but either way she needs to see a Vet & get Spayed asap, 6 months she's still a baby herself, good luck x

Thanks. I am aplanning on getting her spayed of course. I will take her to the vets for a check up. I've already wormed and flea'd her so I hope if she is with kitten, that doesn't hurt them.
Will post back when I know

  • If she is pregnant, and so young and skinny a spey would probably be the kindest thing to do for her - they can be speyed whilst pregnant, and it would save her the risk of giving birth and the drain on her system of feeding them too, whilst she should still be developing and growing herself.

If she is pregnant, the nutrients she will be getting from food and which she needs to become a healthy adult would pretty much bypass her and go to nourishing the kittens, leaving her potentially weakened.
