Broken motherboard and fan and HD?

Hi I wrote a few days ago saying my motherboard was broken. The repair guy opened up the laptop yesterday and now says it's the motherboard and fan and hard disk. I don't understand how that could all happen, it was fine the night before and then wouldn't switch on the next day.
He has quoted £110 to fix it 'as long as he sees nothing else that needs fixing while doing it', which seems a good price if that is to fix everything. But I don't know if I trust him and if he'll just find more things wrong with it. It never seemed to be overheating, as surely it would if the fan was broken?!?

I don't believe anyone is going to replace a motherboard,, fan and disk for £110.
I can't remember the original thread...so...erm...I guess something went wrong with your lappy?!
I'm not suggesting he's going to rip you off...just that it's unlikely he could source those parts for that price, let alone the labourUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

Get a written quote which includes all parts that are being replaced.
Did he look at the fan and hard disk? Did he say what was wrong with them? Did he test them?“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0 -
It's very unlikely he could "fix" all three for £110, which either means they don't all need fixing or he'll stretch that price once it's in bits. I would not trust a "repair" guy that says this.0

Thanks both. I thought it was really unlikely too, especially since the day before he was quoting me £110 for just the motherboard.
sorry to be so ignorant, but how do I test if teh harddisk is working? It was def charging before, it was sounding fine but just no screen action, all the little whirring noises sounded fairly normal...0 -
@ sally...hard disks don't charge up...that'll be a battery

haha, do you think this might give you a clue as to why the repair man thinks he can give me a run for my money!!

^ I think it doesn't help. As XDA suggests, get a written, fixed, quote detailing the new parts to be supplied, and that you have the right to keep the replaced partsUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
