Just paid a 6yr old water bill - did I do the right thing?

Fear not, they are a legitimate company. It's just that they have one focus and only one focus - to collect money from you. They're really not interested in the fluffy stuff like writing to customers etc. But I'd mention this in your complaint all the same.0

Hi there!
Under the Statute of Limitation Act 1981 you are liable to pay the charges up to six years back. Having said that, the creditor, namely the company, SHOULD NOT expect you to pay everything in a lump sum. You should really contact by letter or email Consumer Council for Water and Ofwat to investigate your complaint. They might have made some mistakes, who knows? Also, the company might also be responsible for not asking you to pay you earlier *wink*
P.s: the water company does keep all records wayyyy back until 1989 when the water industry was privatised by the government. AND never ever rely on debt collection agencies - they are crap bunch of people. Pardon my language, I had enough dealing with them!I used to be part of the water industry. If you need any advice, feel free to ask me :A0
