  • Martin, I thought your Health care cashback article was very interesting. I have always wondered whether they were value for money. You suggested testing the water by signing up at a low level then transferring to a higher level if you are happy with the plan. Do you know how this course of action would affect pre-existing conditions. The reason I ask is that there is a possibility that my daughter may need orthodontic treatment in about two or so years time. Would this count as a pre-existing condition ? If yes, then if I signed up for a low level plan for a year with, for example, Foresters Cash4Health who only payout on pre-existing conditions after two years with them, then upgraded to a higher level after a year, would I have to wait two further years before a payout could be made on the pre-existing condition or would the low level plan count as one of those two years? Incidentally, I looked at the Foresters website and could only find details of how to apply, but no details of the benefits or costs of their cashplan or where to find them.
Am I looking in the wrong place ?
    Thanks

Foresters website doesnt have many details you need to call for the plan details. Very good question - and something i hadnt gone into in the article. If you upgrade then you're only covered on the original plan level for the prexisting. So in your case start at the main level - just make sure you claim

This is my first time so forgive me if this is in the wrong place. Do Foresters class opticions & dentitst as pre-existing conditions. I:e i need glasses & use the dentist every 6 months which usually costs. Do i need to wait 2 years to claim for these ???

  • No, I don't think so, unless you are already having or know you will need specific treatment shortly eg. root canal treatment. You should be covered for regular dental check ups and eye tests immediately. The plan details should explain what is covered so you can decide whether you have a pre-existing condition or not before you apply.

    Hope this helps :)

am i right in thinking that for £120 per year invested by me I could get £625 if I did not claim for any NHS reimbursement during the year.

If this is so how would I go about claiming for this at the end of the year.

Foresters' web site is frustratingly unforthcoming about details of their plans. You can apply on line, but they don't tell you what for! I await the details in the post.

I wondered about private medical care insurance and how it fits in with Foresters. I have recently taken out private medical insurance but of course it doesn't cover dentistry and opticians. Would Foresters make a good back up and would I be allowed to have both?

Oh, yes. Would they pay for contact lenses? (I already wear specs).

    Hi,

The links from the article to Norwich Union and Westfield Healthcare don't seem to be working.

It is worth noting that the article mentions a plan, Foresters Cash4Health, that seems to be only available as a group policy or through your employer. The one available directly to members of the public, Forester 100% Healthcare Cashplan, is considerably more expensive. This may boot Forester into touch for the average member of the public.

I got the costs for Forester from the page: http://www.foresters.co.uk/health/applicationhealthcarecashplan.asp If you click on the link for a pdf file (so you can print out the form and send it off), you will notice that it gives much lower prices. Neither the web page nor the pdf file actually give you details of the benefits for the different levels of cover, so 3,000,000,000,000 boos to Forester.
