Yes twink - we can go out and buy little tubs of ice cream when we're there - we can't take it with us though as we live too far from the hospital, and the fridge there doesn't have a freezer box.

  • Hiya

My DD had an op like this when she was about 3. Not suppose to have anything too hot either as it can cause bleeding to start-healing to the roof of the mouth is quite difficult as they are normally unable to stitch there so has to heal naturally.

DD lived on ice cream/yogurts and cool items like tuna with mayo and sweetcorn with cold rice and pasta.

Hope everything goes ok hun. Hugs.

Can't really think of anything else foodwise to help other than milkshakes whizzed up with some fresh milk and fresh fruit to help with keeping the vitamins up?just wanted to wish him a speedy recovery :D
  • Have you spoken to the hospital dietician? They can be mine of information and also are usually a lot more interested in challenging problems like your son's. Good luck to you all.
  • You should be able to order pureed meals for your son on the ward ...lots of people in hospital can't eat 'normal' foods & special diets have to be catered for ... I work in a hospital ward & order special meals for patients everyday :o !!!

You could give him lots of puddings like custard, angel delight etc & what about pureeing foods he likes if you have a food blender.

pureed food can look pretty awful so he may not like it
could you take in a stick blender to make fruit and milk smoothies, they would be beneficial to him if he is off normal food :)

all the best to him, hope it all goes ok :)

My sons nurse came out last Wednesday to take swabs etc, and she said all they serve on the ward are things like chicken nuggets and chips, which won't be suitable for him.

Last time we were there he was 8 months old, and we weren't offered any pureed food or anything - although one of the catering staff asked if he ate chips!?! The only thing they supplied was cartons of milk for him.

So, yes, I've been advised by his nurse to take any food we will need.

Thanks for all the good wishes :) Hopefully we'll be out before Thursday if all goes well :)
