Can i ask what you lot who are close to completion are doing re life insurance MPPI, redundancy cover etc. i am very confused and slightly panicky about how much cover we need- we don't have children but neither of us could afford to keep the house on by ourselves.0
-
hi vkay we have life cover enough to pay mortgage off. redundancy and sickness cover we have taken out a policy that will cover monthly outgoings . this cover will start from the date of completion.0
-
You also need to make sure you save enough for all the fees on top of your 10%. We've budgeted £5000 for ours, although you'll probably need less if you're not paying stamp duty.0

£5000! i just nearly fell off my chair. we are only buying so no selling fees and luckily we dont have stamp duty. only solicitors fees and mortgage set up0
-
No i don't have £5k either but again- no stamp duty ( as long as this gets done before xmas).
Jhe do you mind me asking how much you will pay out each month for all your life and redundancycover. I don't have a clue what is reasonable.0 -
the original cover i got for redundancy, sickness, accident is £20 month. ive asked for life cover to be added. havnt got the quote for it yet but i was assured it wasnt going to cost a lot more. it will depend how much life cover you need and how much monthly outgoings you need what the price will be. plus i would imagine the life cover will vary in price according to age and all the other questions they ask about your health e.t.c0

It does seem like a lot but that's what the mortgage advisor suggested! I'm definitely glad we don't have to pay selling fees on top of that! As it turns out we don't have to pay stamp duty, we would have but our first house fell through and we went for something cheaper in the end. I'm actually glad of the wiggle room cos we've so far had £999 mortgage application fee, 2x£700 surveys, and already given the solicitor 2 cheques for £300, for searches apparently, hopefully the final bill wont be too high! So thats £3000 already and we've still to pay the balance for the solicitor and pay the removal company for which we've had a quote of £7000 -
depending on were you live, how far you are moving to and also how much you have to move. £700 seems an awful lot unless you are moving a long distance and more than one van load. a relative of mine does removals from one end of the country to the other for less than you are paying. thats for a full van load. it might be worth you phoning around smaller removal companies0
