Hello, my Mum has always wanted to grow strawberries so i thought i would give her either seeds or the plants for mothers day. She won't really want to put them in the flower beds so would grow them in pots. Is it best to go for seeds or plants, are any types better and also wheres the best/cheepest place to get them from (preferably online)?
Thanks!
Thanks!

She wont want to grow from seed - go for plants when they are around! You can get strawberyy plant growers (little plastic dustbinny things with holes) that take up very little space but now is not the time to buy them. More info here:

Not sure if you can get them on line but Wilkinsons had packs of (I think) three plants for two pounds something (again I think!) when I looked at the weekend. You don't actually need many plants as they send out runners/self-seed. I found a couple in my patio last year and now have a "strawberry bed". Haven't a clue what sort they are.0

I was looking at a pack of strawberry runners in wilkos the other day, think you got 3 (maybe 5 can't remember) for a couple of pounds but I wasn't sure how good they'd be, wonder if anyone has any experience of such things?0

Year before last I bought a new sort of everbearers which give you early crops of fullsize strawberries and a later crop and the plants don't need replacing every year.
I got some from DTBrowns and some from Marshalls.
Have a look around for some offers I got 10 free when I bought 10
They grow well in borrowed Tesco home delivery crates as well as in the ground0
