help needed getting phone line connected+3333333

Hi, we have just moved into an old house that has been unoccupied for about 18 months and would like to use taltalk for their home phone and broadband package. On a house viewing before we bought the house about a month ago there was a phone connected to one of the sockets with a dial tone. We have since moved into the house a couple of days ago and phoned talktalk to sort out our package only to be told that we would have to pay a reconnection fee of £175 through the post office or if we were able to wait a couple of weeks then talktalk would have the abilty to connect us for £80. My question is: what's the cheapest way to get connected at the moment and start using talktalk please?

ring bt they will install the line for 125 or free if you agree to saty with bt for you line for 18 mths then sign up for talk talk as a carrier pre select service ( meaning you have calls with talk talk and line with bt) and you call bt free by dialing 150 from a payphone

  • Thanks for the quick reply jamespir, does that mean that I would be paying two companies, ie; bt line rental + talktalk for package.?

you pay bt 11.50 for your line and talk talk for calls made and if you have a package ie 5 pounds free evening calls etc so yes you would get to bills but it could work out cheaper

  • You can get line installed to your property by post Office for cheaper then
BT. No 12 months contract on line rental. But you do have to pay 3 months
advance line rental and after 3 months you can switch to other provider or
stay with Post Office. But the cheapest reconnection I think Post Office.

Have a look on Post Office website.

  • Thanks Atomic_guy I will give the post office a call this afternoon. :-)

good to see talktalk misinforming customers to make their own prices look more competitive
    £4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard
    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
    £5070 Black Horse Finance

Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!

    Hi m0lli55y

Sorry if someone from TalkTalk has informed you we can activate the line. Unfortunatly its not a service we offer at the moment. As Atomic_Guy has stated the cheapest way to get the line activated at the moment apears to be through the Post Office and they dont apply contracts so if you choose to leave them there would be no cancelation fees. Best to check all prices and contractual agreements with the provider directly though to be 100% clear where you stand.

If you need any information on TalkTalk plans and prices following the set up of your line let me know.

    Cheers

If you are planning on having SKY i think there is a package with them that they will install the line free if you take up BB, Skytalk and Sky, basic price of £16.50 per month. Have a look at the website.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • 5limJim, looking at the post-office web site there is a chance I have misheard the operator. They state a fee of £107.66 which sounds a lot like £176 if you are partially deaf like me....... oops, my bad...... :-)

Hi EmmaL, thanks for the reply, the talk talk rep said that at the moment talk talk can't connect the line but if we wait a couple of weeks then they will have the ability to for £80......
