Problem with review sites is that you only hear from the screamers.

The happy ones don't bother tell the world how happy they are.

A very true statement, its worth reading the reviews but as Dave said remember the majority of people who have a good experience tend not to do a review

Why spend 5 hours, i spent between and hour and an hour and half on insurance, that was 3 comparison websites, hastings direct, admiral, esure and asda,
Hi DCFC79, I did forget to mention some interuptions from phonecalls and cuppas, but overall I did start at 10.30 am and finished at 3.30pm. The problem wasn't getting the prices but more a check on customer service and this is where I was bamboozled because the majority insurance providers had bad comments for customer service. I just wanted some assurance that the company I selected didn't just want my money and then not care if I was unfortunate enough to have an accident etc shrewdal

I never look at review sites when I'm getting insurance quotes. People only review companies when they have had a problem with them or if they are an insider giving a good review.

You seem to be taking it all rather too seriously. Just get yourself some cheap insurance.

Car insurance is really simple and you are causing yourself angst over nothing.

You are simply buying a basic legal contract which covers you to drive your car.

    Keep that bit in mind.

Any ancillary bits and added value bits are optional and often un=necessary.

Now with that in mind, all you have to do is go to gocompare.com and find the cheapest quote.

add legal protection if necessary but most other bits are all but worthless.

Even protected NCD is a ruse. By hook or by crook they WILL get their money back.

Just buy the basic legal comprehensive policy. Drive carefully within the law, dont crash, dont kill anyone, dont do your makeup or play with your mobile when driving. Look out the window, look at your mirrors and look at your speedo.

I spent hours and hours on comparison sights recently, trying to see how like for like the quotes were and were the companies reputable. I'm sure there are lots more companies and quotes than last time I renewed. I then renewed with my current insurer after getting them to knock £50 off. :rotfl:

The very next evening I was involved in my first accident. As they say, no good deed goes unpunised. A car hit another in front of me at 70mph, scary! I stopped to help and was hit by a ricochet.

Luckily I had legal cover and everything has been taken care of. I had a hire car and my own car was repaired and delivered within the week. It's when you need your insurance that you realise why not to go for the cheapest quote from an unknown company.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

A good point Kynthia, cheapest is not always best in any field otherwise we would not have Marks and Spencer or Waitross.

Check the policy cover, ensure your excess is not to large, you have courtesy car cover, legal protection and it is with a reputable company.

I'm glad your claims was sorted out to your satisfaction

Ironically a lot of Marks and Spencers food is the same as elsewhere just marked up, I know this from working in a factory, and my dad worked in a different factory making different food products for another company that sold to M+S as did a friend and we all at one point made food for them which was the same as was sold to various supermarkets, same quality and all just different branding.

No idea for Car insurance but Swinton are EVIL for home insurance as when I was younger my mum kept on getting rude calls saying she hadnt paid that months insurance when she did and had proof, this went on for years, and when we moved 5 years later Swinton were still insuring the old house and made my mum cry on the phone as they were so nasty despite her ringing up various times over the years, sending dozens of letters etc and they tried to say she was commiting fraud by not telling them we moved as we were trying to pay less in insurance, I mean !!!!!!!

And a lot of the insurers belong to the same group, just under different names. Same product, different brand.
