Reduced depth bathroom furniture - Ellis/Mereway?

I used to fit bathrooms for a living, mind you this was some years back.
At that time Utopia was head and shoulders above all the others in range and construction. I wasn't a huge fan of their solid worktop though.0 -
Guess where I've been today? Yip, trawling round bathroom showrooms for the umpteenth time.
However......*drum roll*...I have now got a print out of the two layout versions I was considering, courtesy of a very nice lady in Wickes. It's clear that one layout looks and works far better than the other. It just wasn't as obvious using graph paper and cutouts. A proper CAD prog is a blessing.
So I know exactly what I'm doing and thankfully the units I will now need are a standard 600mm width which gives me plenty choice.
I went out with the intentions of looking at the Ellis ranges but I ended up taking a shine to a Utopia range.
They also do a btw wc and reduced depth basin I quite like........are their sanitaryware products of good quality?
Alan....what was it about their solid worktops you weren't fond of?Herman - MP for all!0 -
Few other names for you
Howdens Joinery also do a large bathroom range in various sizes
Ideal standards concept furniture offers a modern product and good quality for a resonable price but the range is not huge
Piermonte bathrooms, Made by Bemodern offer a 250mm depth unit in a large amount of sizes, These can be bought from your local PTS at a rough discount of 35-40%Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Thanks Andy. 250mm deep is just too much I'm afraid and I did have a Howden's brochure at one point but from memory, I'm sure their units were a bit too deep too.Herman - MP for all!0

Well I always thought the name itself was a misnomer.
It's basically 4-5mm of resin composite on 24mm of chipboard. More a resin laminate than a solid surface.
I thought it expensive for what it is, it reminded me very much of Minerelle or Encore (in fact it's reasonably likely to be one of these two products produced specifically for utopia).
It does look nice when fitted, but it's not far off the price you'd pay for a nice piece of marble or granite....and frankly I'd prefer a nice piece of marble or granite (but I'm wholly biased being a stone wholesaler!)
As an aside, it's Utopias range of shapes and sizes that always stood them apart from their competitors (I'm not sure if the gap has closed now).
The only bathrooms I saw that were produced regularly to a better standard were Goodwood Bathrooms.....Sit yourself down before you check the pricelist though...you're bathroom there will be the same sum as a new family car.0 -

Oh my, lottery win required there, I think. In fact I'd have to rebuild my house in order to do the bathroom justice.
Mind you, many years ago, my Mother (who fancied herself as an arty crafty sort) got fed up with her serviceable white fridge and kitchen units so she covered them all in teak coloured fablon. The 2nd picture is exactly what our kitchen was like. For a fraction of the price. :rotfl:The woman was obviously ahead of her time.
Thanks for your Utopia thoughts btw.Herman - MP for all!0
