i understand the principal of what you're saying but i can't get the numbers to add up...!

But i be a bit thick!

    I'm a bit lost too...

Is 1lb of body fat equivalent to 4200 calories (1200 x 7/2) or to 3500 calories?

Ooops - Sal beat me to it;)

its probably my calculation hang on

2000 (cals needed per day) - 800 (amount of calories you are eating) = 1200 calories which your body isn't getting in food so has to burn off as fat from your body
that assumes you're active enough to need 2000 calories... Maz, and all you runners, probably are but I'm not at the moment ...:o

1200 x 7 (number of days per week) = 8400 calories which your body isn't getting per week in food so burns off in fat

3500 calories per week needed to burn 1 pound of fat
you are burning 8400 (amount you are burning) /3500 = 2.4 so 2 and a bit pounds

EUREKA!!!!!!! I GOT IT! Thanks babes!!

The CD average is 3lbs a week which is borne out by your figures? more in week one due to water/glycogen stores being lost... then a steady 3lbs a week average...

i guess i should be more due to running, swimming etc... ?

    Fingers crossed eh?!

Luc - thats what your body needs even if you arent active at all...its the calorie amount for your cells and body parts to function properly...

Sally's right - thats why its recommended you dont lose more than 1-2 pounds a week since to do so requires a) starving yourself i.e. neglecting your bodies normal functions and/or b) over excercising - niether of which are sustainable long term
