£7.50 a month "Web bolt on" probably a good idea if your going to spent time on the web, otherwise you could spend up to 98p per day.
iPhone is expensive and only has the edge over a phone I've had for 8 days now with a slightly more responsive touch screen and a more intuitive menu layout.
I'm really enjoying my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, much cheaper that an iPhone and other similar phone, does more out of the box, superb for music, full size screen 640x360 pixel touch screen. It has Wi-Fi, the faster 3g (HSDPA Cat 6 up to 3.6Mbps) and conventional GPRS. You need to check the connections set up and place them in order of priority, Wi-Fi first, MobileWeb (3g) second, GPRS next. When I get home the phone automatically uses the Wi-Fi home broadband connection. Sitting on the train I can see the phone switching from 3g to GPRS depending on whats available while on the move.
Also has an Email client program supporting POP and IMAP. It's a bit simplistic compared to more business orientated smart phones like the Blackberry's but it does the job fine for those dealing with "social" levels of email use.
Also has GPS and maps on 90 day trail if you want sat nav on foot or in car too, plus loads of other stuff.
So long as you remember to turn off bluetooth and GPS you can get 2 to 3 days out of the battery playing music 3-4 hours a day, half hour a day of calls, hour of internet use a day. Fun and does so much it's easy to flatten the battery in 24 hours though.
