Can I claim Cashback from e2save if I change my contract
Hi all,
a bit of a sneaky question.
E2Save say that you're not allowed to change your tarrif at anypoint during the year in order to claim cashback from them.
I'm after the Nokia 6280 (on Three Video Talk & Text 700) with 6 mths cashback paid on months 4, 8 and 12.
After the initial 6 mths is up, can I, on mth 9 and 10 (in between the cashback claim months) shift down my contract to Video Talk & Text 350, then, for mth 12 shift back up to VTT 700 so that I can claim cashback with this bill.
I know e2save would probably frown on this, but could I do it?
Do/can they monitor changes in tariff over the contract?
Thanks.

Why don't you ask them to clarify the T&C? The networks are gradually cutting back on people downgrading tariff early. If the conditions say you can't then don't0

If I do this in the final third of my contract (after the 2nd cashback)installment, my contract works out £22 cheeper,so I was going to do this anyway (T&Cs only say you need to say on same tariff for cashback reasons). I just wanted to find out if I could squeeze a few extra wuid out of them!!!0

You ask if tariff changes are monitored. Who are you paying the money to? Where does the dealer commission come from?icebergx wrote:(T&Cs only say you need to say on same tariff for cashback reasons).
I suggest you get a contract you understand, and observe it. If the dealer says you can or cannot downgrade the tariff without affecting the cashback, that is what they mean.0 -
I do understand this contract, but you have to understand that companies, wether it's e2save or mobile rainbow, don't want you to claim cashback it's extra money for them. They put obsticles and 'complications' to reduce the likelyhood of you being able to do this.
Most other retailers of Three, and Three themselves let you downgrade after six months without a penalty (unless it's a cashback deal like e2save) as, I think, they have claimed all their commission for a 12 mth contract at that point.
If I'm right, and I admit I'm not 100% sure, e2save check that you're still on the same tariff from the bill that you send them.
I just want to know if I, and other MSEs can save a bit more :T0 -
I'm sorry to argue, but I read what you said in the OP
As I said, on other threads people are saying that the networks are cutting down on tariff reductions within the contract. This seems to have been gradually happening since about September, and tonight someone said that Vodafone have changed policy just recently. 3 have made several recent changes, but I do not know if this is one of them.icebergx wrote:E2Save say that you're not allowed to change your tarrif at anypoint during the year in order to claim cashback from them.
If as a result of your action, you reduce the commission received from the network, then the dealer is very likely to notice. I've answered the question 3 times now, and wish you luck if you insist on making assumptions about this detail without checking. I say again, be sure you understand this at the start as there will be little point arguing about it once it is too late.0 -
No offence taken Redux.

Obviously I, or anyone, tests my assumptions at their own risk.
Just wanted to know if anyone has any 'inside knowledge'.
Thanks for repling so promply, especially at this time of the morning.
I'm off to bed!0 -
Be wary that if you invalidate your cashback claim by downgrading your tariff they may try to claw back the two earlier cashback payments. Definitely check first and try to get something in writing (e-mail is okay), otherwise it may end up costing you a lot more instead of making a twenty two pound saving.icebergx wrote:If I do this in the final third of my contract (after the 2nd cashback)installment, my contract works out £22 cheeper,so I was going to do this anyway0 -
I understood that the reason the retaillers have different conditions from the networks is where they have'revenue sharing' arrangements with the network - cpw for example make a percentage of each bill you pay to the network and with some contracts (for example on vodafone) they actually handle the billing themselves so how much they make does depend on what tariff you are on.
However I am not sure if they check your record for what tariff you have been on for each bill on just look at the one sent in - although of course on each bill it is possible to see which tariff you are on for both that month and the next making mucking about like this more tricky.
I have never heard of attempts to reclaim cashback that has already been paid - I would have thought the t&C would need to explicitly state this for it too be enforceable.
I have a contract with an amoun tto claim in months 8 and 12 - given the network doesn't allow downgrade to month 6 the month 8 downgrade is probably not worth it (although I am wondering if I can downgrade after the 8th bill without it showing on that bill) and it is definately better for me to pay the cheapest tariff for the last 4 months and give up the last cashback payment...I think....0
