https://www.adslguide.org.uk is (or at least was) good at helping with this sort of decision. Personally, I'm with Zen - not the cheapest price perhaps but the customer service and technical reliability is A1. And you get static IP addresses.
  • I've been on Pipex for 18 months and had no problems at all, very good service.

Not quite as competitive as they used to be - £23.44 for 512kbps, but quality service.

When working out the "cheapest" take into account the price of set-up, price of an adsl modem/ router and length of contract. Work it out over a 12 month period to get a true cost (TCO). Adslguide is the best site and has a very vocal forum.

Pipex is very good, i had no problems with them, ive as ive got mates living in the same house we so split the internet bill and it worked out £15/mth for 1st 3 mths and after £20/mth. and thats like 4 times fasted than 512k. So it depends if your sharing the line with anyone else at home.

  • Based on my recent experience Metronet are one of the best. They work on a minimum charge (about 11.75) for the first 200meg then max £22.75 for over 4.3gig. never got to this yet, average about £16.00 per month (family of 3, on all day)
Whichever you choose if is imperative that you are fully covered by antivirus/firewall and spyware programs (up to date) Don't go on line later to get them, get a trustedand protected) friend to do so and put them on a CD for you, it only takes seconds for you to get infected.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • E7even are great - I've been with them for about 3-4 months now. I paid £200 for a year in advance (got the connection fee free on a deal they were doing) - equates to £16.66 per month. This gives me 512kbps ADSL (1M available) uncapped (i.e now limit to amount of data you can download). They also give you a static ip-address (this is good and other isps generally charge for this as an extra). They also will register and host a .uk domain name free of charge too !

I have emailed their support with a couple of questions and their response has been the fastest of ANY company I have ever had cause to email !

I have had no downtime at all - I am generally using the link for 12 -14 hours per day.

In short - highly recommended. They generally do special deals - free modem, extra free months free etc - so look out for them. I post the specials on my referral link in my signature below .

If you , or anybody signs up using my referral code, I'll split the £20 referral with you too so you earn a tenner as well !
    To infinity and beyond!
