Yes you can drive an untaxed vehicle to a pre-booked MOT test, but where does it say 'reasonable distance'?Mark_Hewitt wrote: »<snip>
As far as I know the only time it is permissable to drive without tax is to a pre-booked MOT test and only for a reasonable distance. You must still have insurance for the car.
I agree it is a reasonable assumption, but is it a fact?0 -
No, that is my assumption. But I think you would have a hard time convincing a plod that stops you in Kent that the MOT garage in Thurso was the only one that catered to your needs.0

Find someone who can loan you some trade plates.
Do not do this as it is illegal.
The driver and trade plate licence holder could both receive hefty fines if caught.
Car can also be impounded.* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

Only the trade plate licence holder can use trade plates - not anyone else. They must be in the car at all times when trade plates are displayed.

f. The vehicle may be DRIVEN by the trade licensee, or anyone else driving with their consent, provided it is for a use authorised by the licence holder and that it falls within the requirements set out in schedule 6, part 2, 8-15 RV(R&L) Regs 2002.
