Hello,
I bought a car without tax from UK.
I am going to take it to Portugal.
I can not buy tax because I do not have UK insurance.
I do not have UK insurance because I do not have UK address.
I have personal insurance that cover me to drive the car.
Will I have problems driving it out of the country without tax?
What I can do?
Regards,
Filipe

You can't drive the car on the road in the UK without tax, UK insurance for the car (as it is a UK registered vehicle) and an MOT if it needs one.
You risk having the car impounded and destroyed if you are stopped by the Police.
The only thing you can do legally is get the car transported on a lorry to the port or channel tunnel terminal etc.
Your vehicle will probably also be illegal to drive in all of the countries you drive through on the way to your destination.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Hello,
THe car have MOT and my insurance cover the car. It just do not have Tax.
If I fill the "Notification of Permanent Export" on the V5 it will allow me to run without tax?0 -
nothing allows you to run without tax
trailor it0 -
Tax the car for six months, then when you get to Portugal send the tax disc back and claim a refund for the five months left.0

As others have said, the vehicle is not allowed on the UK roads without a road fund licence ( tax disc ).
I am also unsure of your insurance legality, you say it covers the car, have you checked this?0 -
Find someone who can loan you some trade plates.0

Your insurance cannot possibly cover the car whilst it is in the UK, as UK-registered vehicles must have UK vehicle-specific insurance. Foreign 'personal' insurance will not be valid unless there is also an insurance policy held by you or another person for that specific vehicle.
You must have a valid tax disc for the vehicle. You will need to get UK car insurance for the vehicle to get this.
The onlything you can legally do is get it taken on a trailor.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
the person/trader you bought it from might still be able to tax it for you if you ask them nicely0

if you live not far from the ferry you could risk it, but it's up to you. I've driven a couple of cars back into the uk with expired tax discs (expired while I was abroad) and I had no problem at the port (Dover). But you can't drive an untaxed vehicle or keep it on a public road for long these days before you will be in trouble with the law.0

APR tends to be at the ports etc to catch people doing exactly that!
As others have said you'll need to insure it and tax it before you can take it anywhere. But; the most you will have to pay is 1 months worth on each of these, after you get to where you are going you can get a refund of the tax and insurance you haven't used.
As far as I know the only time it is permissable to drive without tax is to a pre-booked MOT test and only for a reasonable distance. You must still have insurance for the car.0
