Nokia 5800 users - advice please!
Hi all,
I'm looking at getting a Nokia 5800 for my next phone - did want an iphone but this seems to be a cheaper option that offers some if not all of the iphone functions. I have a few questions before I commit though that I haven't got a definitive answer to from reviews or the bloke in carphone warehouse:
Is the GPS system a direct equivalent for a Tom Tom or similar - i.e. can I use it in my car to get turn by turn directions?
Is it possible to transfer DVDs etc onto it via my PC to watch on the phone?
Can I browse the "proper" internet on it (rather than just wap etc) and if so is this reliant on being in a wi-fi hotspot? Is it any good?

the GPS system on the phone may not be as good as a TomTom System. The GPS on my omnia is not brilliant, though i cant make an accurate assumption for the 5800. Signal strength will be dependent on the Chipset they use.
I very doubt you would be able to transfer a 4gb dvd onto the Nokia 5800 however i would think you can covert your DVD to DIVX version which will squezze it down to about 700mb.
and no you dont get "proper proper " internet on phones...its usually the wap version on phones... Internet is best done on PC in my opinion0 -
i have had one for about a week now and think is very good.
you can put dvds onto it as it comes with a 8gb card, sat nav is ok will tell you which way to go etc but nothing like a tom tom, is easy to use and put applications onto it. It all depends what you expect from a mid range priced phone, it also comes with bbc i player which can only be used in wifi areas0 -
Hi,
I had a 5800 for a week or so but I've just sent it back as I wasnt 100% happy with it.
I found the internet very difficult to use, the links too small to click on etc.
I'm now opting for an iphone, I seem to be going round the block trying to get a cheaper 'iphone' rival and they all end up a bit rubbish so I'm going to pay a bit more and get the real thing!0 -
